Primary Reason for Building a List

Good Morning All,

I'm new at this so please have tolerance if this seems elementary.

My initial understanding is to create a website that gives info about a particular niche. On that site you put an opt in form to collect names of folks to keep them informed about that niche should they choose to opt in.

Then I come across info from some of the big list building guru's who seem to be building a huge list for the sake of having a huge list for the purpose of future sales. In which case a website isn't used but instead a squeeze page is used.

Does that mean I should be doing both.

Say I want to have a site that shows the most effective way to train your goldfish.

So I would build my goldfish trainig site and drive people to that.

But should I also have a Best Way to Train Your Goldfish squeeze page running at the same time and drive traffic to it also?????????

Should you always have a squeeze page linked with your site????????

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Jim

A website can function both as a squeeze page (primarily collects the name and email addresses) and, a content site where people can get some information on the niche that you are covering.

You can either drive traffic directly to your website for them to see the information that they are looking for, or first to a squeeze page to collect data (build your list), and you will lead the traffic to your website eventually.

    Here's how it goes.

Traffic > website WITH squeeze page > you provide information through your content > do whatever you want to do with the traffic.

Traffic > squeeze page > you lead the traffic to your website > you provide useful content > make use of the traffic and the list (sales pitches, etc. etc..)

      your summary is very accurate
i think someday i need to do traditonal email marketing. i'm old school in that i mail my customers occasionally offering sales and it always converts to something. someday i will quit being lazy and actually do it right.

In my experience, it is better first to create a squeeze page, follow up with email giving valuable and practical information for them to apply or to educate them and after that make the sell, why? because most of the people are not pretty clear about if they should buy or not, the more info you gave them the easier you are making their decision to make the purchase

The main reason I build a list is that people often aren't ready to buy straight away after they view a site but if they get more information over the next few days/weeks they may well be interested in buying

The primary reason for building a list is to be able to
economically and effectively follow-up with your vistors
after they've been to your website.

People don't always buy from you on their first exposure,
so having a list helps you to follow-up with visitors, get
multiple exposures to you, and increase your chances of
      making sales.

So, to have a 'squeeze' page and/or an informational
      website?

      You're better off having both.

      Why?

Because with the 'squeeze' page you can build your
list and then follow-up with your subscribers thereafter.

The objective of the 'squeeze' page is to let the visitor
make a decision on whether they want to join your list.

      Period.

If they do, you can send them information within your
follow-up e-mails and direct them to information and
offers on other pages of your site.

If you just have a standard informational website, then
the probability is high that most visitors will just look
around, get some information and then never come
      back again.

      Focus on building a list.

So, use a 'squeeze' page to get them on a list so you
can follow-up with them effectively afterwards.

      Dedicated to your success,

      Shaun

A good idea is to have tips and information on your website, but offer advanced tips and strategies via your mailing list. That way if people like what you provide on your website but want extra help they can subscribe for a free ecourse or ebook.

Getting people on your mailing list is essential. If people visit your site, enjoy it and bookmark it, there's a very real chance they'll forget about it and never visit it again. When they're on your mailing list you can send them weekly newsletters which ends up reminding them of your site and creates more visitors / interaction. A good percentage of my traffic comes from repeat visitors via my mailing list.

your list is the single highest-leverage asset you have in IM... Free and Paid traffic can go away but your list, if you treat them nice, won't. Plus your list and your connection with your people is the key to get JV partners, which can then multiply your list size, traffic, customers and so on

I think building a list is of primary importance. The big guys got big by building profitable responsive lists. Clearly you need to understand what to do with a list when you have it. For example if you do not offer value and just keep sending offers your subscribers will unsubscribe in a New York minute.

A list is a tool of communication, that's why they exist in the first place. It's often the only way to get in continuous contact with a potential or existing customers.

You can have a many squeeze pages linked to a single site. You can do this for testing purposes. It is not necessary to always have a squeeze page linked to your site.

Squeeze page are mainly used for building a list and for long term profits.
