sales pages, opt in forms and affiliates??

ok s i have my sales page and i want to have a opt in form on it, but i dont want to take anything away from my affiliates.

if i set up a opt in form on my sales page and they signed up to the opt in form but did not make a purchase how do i make sure the affiliate gets paid for it if the customer buys it later down the line from a follow up message i send?

sorry guys this has been playing on my mind!

it will be sold on click bank as well as dap (digital access pass)system
Any advice?

First off, I commend you for your concern...

Here's how I used to do it when I ran coop campaigns for my network marketing team:

    1. Use a bit of scripting to read the affiliate code from the referring url.

    2. Use another bit of scripting to insert that code into a hidden field on the form.

When the visitor submitted the form, the affiliate code was added to the database along with everything else.

When we sent follow-up emails, we scripted things so that every link that went out included the appropriate affiliate code.

I suspect that serious, pro-affiliates are only going to promote it if you also offer (as many vendors do) an alternative version of the sales-page without the opt-in. Few here, certainly, will promote one with a vendor's opt-in, as you can see from this thread and many similar ones. Many of us like the client to be on our list (if on anyone's), because we have other stuff to sell them, just as many vendors do.

Again, you may find that in the case of Clickbank, few pro-affiliates will promote a product also sold elsewhere.

Please don't be offended, but I certainly wouldn't look at it, myself, on that basis: there's just too much risk of not getting paid a commission after my skills, energy, work, time and effort have generated the customer, if s/he can buy it somewhere else, a bit later, where my affiliate cookie won't help me to get paid.

It's just a problem I don't need, when I have 12,000 other Clickbank products to choose from.

I commend your honesty as well but would agree with Alexa, I avoid sales pages that leak!

Why not create a sales page without an opt in just for affiliates and JV's

    • yes i see your point, obviously i want to do best for the affiliates.

I did have a feeling it might put many affiliates off, i guess i would have to capture customer emails after purchase so i can still offer updates only to paying members.
Also i have a few other products that i plan to release as follow up products. Instead of just sending emails to the customer base i would like to give the affiliate the option to sell the product to the members they have signed up previously.
I have had trouble thinking of a way to do this, i thought i can set up a affiliate opt in list and email them first with the information to send their clients to.
Can you think of a better way of doing this?

i have been affiliate marketing for some time and subconsciously avoided promoting sales pages with opt-in lists

i will only sell the product through clickbank i think, i tend to overcomplicate things :p

  • oh and i dont want to sell them as a up sell as each product has individual up-sells catered towards the product.

Why not hire a coder, (if you can't do this yourself), to combine both John McCabe's AND Alexa's suggestions.

Have the page coded to look for an affiliate ID; IF found THEN do not show opt-in form OR ELSE show opt-in form. Simple enough for a programmer to do.

(you can inform your affiliates if you want; but more than likely any affiliate that test visits your page will do so with their affiliate ID).
