301 Redirect Help please.

Hello,

I hope I can explain myself...So here goes -
In approx. 3 weeks my new site will go live. In that time should I continue with SEO on my current site, submitting articles, signing up for this and that, backlinks etc.

Or - Save all the resources I have gathered for the new site?

I plan to do a 301 redirect with current site. Age 1year, 500k+ alexa rank, yahoo dir, PR1, SE page 1 for some of my keywords...I know it's not the best but at least some of my SEO is working.

Or - Is the 301 redirect the best way?

I have learned a lot from reading these forums, stuff I wish my web developer would have told me a year ago. I just want to do it right this time around.

All the best,

CarrieB

Yup.. 301 Redirect is the best way to move your rankings and PR to the new domain. 301 Redirects are helpful is getting back your PR and Yahoo backlinks. You just have to be more patient for the results.

      Carrie,
301 is the way to go. It will pass your link juice and give you that boost. Maybe do a press release on it and dig the crap out of it to push the indexes a bit further.

Thanks you much, 301 it is then. Should I still continue with SEO on my current site?

        sportsfan54,
While there are many variances from a technical standpoint there are only 2 types of redirects we need to be concerned with, 301 and 302.
301 redirects are permanent redirects that pass link authority to the redirected websites
302 redirects are considered temporary redirects that do not pass link authority.
        Carrie,
I would work on SEO for both the 301 and the landing site. I'm not quite sure what the SEO gurus would say on this but from my own efforts I see better results when I do this.
