new question about new site & googlebot indexing

I just registered for a brand new domain yesterday and threw up a WP blog on it along with about 30 articles. I did it yesterday at 5pm PST and it's 4pm PST now. I read a lot of threads where people were getting indexed within 24hrs. Is that the norm? Is it just slower at indexing on weekends because of the sheer volume of new sites over the weekend? I also pinged a few sites for some backlinks that are appearing in Google searches, but the google bot hasn't crawled my site yet.

    no need to worry.Getting indexed can sometimes take a week or two.

    You can submit a sitemap to google. That should be quicker. Your pages will be added to google index faster. Usually within a day. You can use feedburner as sitemap and submit it to google. It will do wonder. You don't need to wait days to get listed.

      Yeah I submitted the sitemap via Google's webmaster site.

        You can also submit the wordpress RSS feed to your google webmaster tools as sitemap.

        Submit some of your articles to social bookmarking sites. I found that mister wongs and mixx are indexed pretty good.

        Most sites are indexed within 24 - 48 hours, some sites are indexed within minutes.

        Last year I bought a used domain name, and moved it to my server. It took google about 2 - 3 weeks to index the new site. Why did it take so long? I dont know.

    There really isn't a set time as to when Google will index your website. Although, the time might vary depending on these factors:

    Popularity of your site
    Whether the contents are Crawl-able
    Site structure

    For initial indexing, it may take days, weeks or even months for your website to be indexed. There are also no guarantees that your URL will be indexed, however, it will help if you have at least one good quality link from another site.

    As an alternative, you can always submit your URL to Yahoo for indexing.
