What Sign Up Incentive Should I Choose

I am looking to offer a "subscription sign up incentive" and I am wondering which you think is best?

1. Free mini e-book (something on saving money)
2. Once a month giveaway of a $25 gift card or cash
3. Once every 4 month giveaway of $100 gift card or cash

The downside of the ebook is I have to find the time to write it and put it together- the upside..no cost (other than my time) and everyone gets it.

The downside of the $$ giveaways.. they cost money and subscribers only have a chance at winning.

What do you think the biggest motivator would be?

As far as getting people to subscribe to a list goes, you aren't going to get many people signing up and parting with their email addresses without giving something of value in return.

I would advise you to over deliver with your incentive. Create a really good ebook with high value content. Put a value on it so they understand they are getting a great deal.

I think the "Once every 4 month giveaway of $100 gift card or cash" is more appealing to visitors. You have to spend money to earn money so I think this would be the best incentive you could offer.

Who says you have to spend money to earn money? That is a huge fallacy! A once every four month $100 give away isn't going to give the OP the amount of traffic they need to build a profitable list. Offering a free, valuable incentive to EVERY person who subscribes will give their list building efforts a much better chance for success.

Look at some good PLR ebooks if you just don't think you're up to writing an original one of your own. You might pay a bit for a good one, but it'll be less than $100 for sure. And, as long as it's closely related to what you want the list content to be about, it'll bring in the right kind of targeted traffic (and list members). I highly recommend rewriting the PLR at least a bit. You can do it on your own without much work, really. Just reword it without changing the overall meaning. Or, hire a writer to do it for you. It'll be a one-time investment that should pay you back many times over. I do think you want to give away something with intrinsic and immediate value. Offering a "once every four months" giveaway probably won't be as appealing, and will probably result in a lower conversion rate. Also - and this is very important - that kind of giveaway will get you a list that isn't very targeted. After all, everybody loves the chance of winning cash or a prize. What you want (ideally) is a targeted subscriber list. That is how you end up making $1 or more per subscriber per month.

Don't forget to make it simple and easy to manage.

Running a give away contest will take time, effort and energy on your part to manage and run.

Setting up an autoresponder to deliver a free book or even mini course to every person who signs up is a one time investment of time and effort.

Zeus hit the nail on the head. Look for some decent PLR and re-write it. Or hire someone to write a good report for you.

You could even offer to send them a chapter a week. Then write one chapter every week. In a few weeks your book is done and you have got it set up and ready to go.

Don't like writing? Record it and give away an audio (MP3 file). It will probably have a higher perceived value as fewer people are doing it.

Create different incentives and split test them to see what works better for you. You can use something like Google Website Optimizer to see what converts the best.

Get some software with PLR rights that allows to rebrand with your site name. You can now give away this software on a squeeze page and get viral too.

If you decide to try a cash/giftcard giveaway, be very careful you don't run afoul of the sweepstakes/lottery laws. Requiring people to subscribe in order to have a chance at a prize drawing could be considered a raffle or lottery...

Hey, thanks guys. I have been looking at some plr info and have definitely considered it. I have found at least one good source that did not require a huge amount of rewrite, other than to personalize it a bit and to add my own experience.

I actually have a decent sign up rate even w/o the incentive and my list I have built up is pretty good, too- over 6000.

But I want to ramp it up because I am being featured in Redbook(woman's magazine) in October and I would love to capture as many of those new visitors as I can.

I also would like to get a better conversion of the double opt in- I feel like not enough people are completing the opt in process.
