Ranking on page 1 of google for low competitive keyword?

Hi,

I've spent a lot of time using Google keywords tool and Market Samurai to find decent traffic, low competition keywords. I've followed all the instructions and still my sites aren't getting to the first page...

Based on what I've been told I should be able to buy a keyword rich domain, use the keyword in the title, head and descripition and get some back links and rank pretty easily. So far it's not happening and it's frustrating to me. I spend so much money on WSO's, courses etc and I'm not seeing results. Does anyone really know how to do this and will anyone really teach me how to do it?

Craig

It's constant backlink building for your website. All the different ways to backlink your site. It's all pretty basic. Web Directories, profiles, web 2.0s, blog comments, blog posts, article directories, social bookmarks and much more.

I focus on SEO but I'm not PRO but I do rank for a few different niches and I've accomplished it by doing what I said above. If you want to pick my brain, PM me or message me on instant messenger.

I think you should write some articles or have some outsourced and submit them to ezine articles, with the links in your author sig box pointing back to your website. That should get you some quality backlinks to start with.

If you got Market Samurai use the seo analysis option to check on the top websites for the keyword you trying to rank for and see want they are doing and do the same, then 1 up them

There's a reason why they call it "Market Samurai"...it allows you to 'unmask' and KNOW when it is within your budget/resources to actually compete with them. As much as we would all love to be #1 in Google, sometimes it just isn't even in our best interest to try.

          "...low competition keywords."

This can be tricky because, what if you have a keyword/phrase that has a very low SEOC value, yet, the people who DO rank in the Top 10 spots on Google all have superior backlinks/backlinking campaigns? Yesterday, I had what I thought was an amazing keyword that I was going to target. It had hundreds of searches, a great SEOT value, and around a 800 SEOC value. Typically, this would be GREAT, however, further analysis of the competitions backlinks revealed that it wouldn't really even be in my best interest to try to compete at this point in time.

Just about every piece of data MS gives you could actually require further analysis. Ultimately, we want to maximize earnings and NOT waste time (since time IS valuable), so MS does allow us to do this quite well.

Feel free to toss out more questions, and we'll do our best to answer them.

You only need to make backlinks for your website by using the ways "itzpaul" said and WAIT.
Of course it will take some months to see the result of your work.

You do not need to have more backlinks to out rank sites on the first page of Google, you need fresh content, site activity and consistent monthly backlinks that is it. Use the backlink advice given to you by itzpaul and make sure you have fresh content and some activity on your site and you will be good.

By contsant monthly backlinks, does articles to Ezine count? If I am submitting between 2 and 5 a day, will this help build my backlinks over time?

This is just my opinion, but Ezine is pretty much my only source for backlinks because I work full time in addition to IM. So, when I write an article I submit it to Ezine and if I find the time down the road I will spin and submit to other directories. But the bulk of my backlinks are Ezine and I have several sites at #1 and more on page 1.

I had one that sank deep into the abyss for about two months, but I kept adding content about twice a month and added backlinks about once a week. When it came back it was at a PR2 and #1 - where it has stayed

Give it time, continue to add content and build links.

Yes, submitting to ezine articles will help build your backlinks. not only from that site but if you have a good article it may get picked up by other blogs and you will ge tthe backlink from there as well.

It takes time, especially with google, just keep at it, create good content and get good backlinks and keep at it and eventually it will pay off. Going after SERPs can be slow but once you start noticing some benefits it will pick up.

    @davidmeeonline
Yes, if you are including links back to your site in the resource box then it will count as backlinks to your site.

Analyzing your competitors is just as important as analyzing your targeted keyword. It was already said earlier in this thread that you could have the perfect keyword to go after but if the competition is too tough to rank for then it is worthless

The key is how tough is the top 10 list on Google for your keyword? It could meet all the normal criteria for low competition keywords but if the top 10 are 3 .gov, 4 .edus, wikipedia, and a couple of PR 7 pages... skip it.

It doesn't matter how few pages are there for that keyword if the top 10 are HUGE GORILLA"S. If you are shooting for the 1st page of Google, that is your competition. No one else.

Can you beat them? Better PR, more relevant backlinks, more activity?

If you can and are still having trouble.

Check your on page SEO - Traffic Travis free version does a good job of it.
Check your backlinks - Market Samurai is awesome for this.

Reverse engineer the top players. Where do they get backlinks from? Can you get them from the same place?

Lay out a specific plan to knock off #10 and go for him. Then repeat for #9 as you move up the page.

I have read a lot about adding new content to your site regularly.

I started with a standard landing page which doesn't lend itself to new content very well, (at all) What would be my best option to change it into a site I can add content to?

I haven't been able to find a definate answer if I should add more pages on related themes/topics, or if I should be adding to the main page I am directing traffic to.

Thanks so much for your advice. It appears that good content, backlinks and activity is what everyone is saying. When you say activity do you mean traffic? What about auto blog content using plugins like wp-robot?
