What do you consider to be the best IM skills to have?

As we all know time is precious so we need to learn only the skills that are most important. So what do you consider the best three internet marketing skills to have?

Here are my top three in no particular order:

1. Computer programming (if you know this you can create almost anything)
2. Copyrighting (we all know words sell)
3. SEO (targeted traffic is always welcome)

Although all three of these can be outsourced. Its still great to aquire all of these skills yourself for obvious reasons.

So what are yours?

In my opinion there is only ONE that matters

    TAKING ACTION

You can be an expert in EVERYTHING but not make a dime. Yet somebody who is beginner at everything but takes action ends up stupidly rich.....

I've seen it happen again and again and again.....!!!

I agree 100%. Most people collect information and fail to take action.

      lol... some great answers.

But if I had to select from the 3 mentioned in the OP... I'd take copywriting all day.

Arguably the single most important skill you can acquire. IMHO.

We are primarily marketers... not webmasters or product creators. Good copy skills allow you to virtually print money on demand when needed.

          Fair point....

I would say the most important skill in IM is targeted traffic with a huge DISCLAIMER.....

This is highly debatable because you can get traffic, but, without the ability to convert that traffic your dead in the water. There could be a number of reasons your offer does not convert, from web design, to the sales page itself, targeting the wrong customers, etc.

It really is difficult to say what skill is is top because the criteria is too narrow without any other variables. For instance, the most important skill depends on how much money you're starting with in IM, what kind of marketing you plan on persuing, affiliate marketing, ebay, your own site, etc.

See, i look at traffic as a resource for your business. Driving traffic is a different skill.

I guess my view is based on the fact that if I only had one to select... I'd go copy.

The best skill of any kind is knowing your own strengths and capitalizing on them. Then knowing your own weaknesses, and knowing where to go to capitalize on them...

ie... finding sources to make up for your weaknesses.

Doing this means you have to be your own worst critic and in the end you will be able to build a strong business because knowing these things made it possible for you to have a very strong business team.

    My top 3 skills are...

    1. The ability to create, leverage, and scale business systems
    2. The ability to sell snow to an eskimo
    3. The ability to build rapport with any type of person no matter their disposition.

So basically it's not really "IM skills" for example. I think these skills make IM a lot easier...

    Just my 2 cents.

    Cheers,

    Brad

The top 3 most important skills for Internet Marketers, in my opinion, would be (in no specific order)

    ~ The Ability to LEARN
    ~ The Ability to TEACH
~ The ability to build "Lasting Relationships".

Every business owner in the world needs to be able to learn in order to keep up with the times. They must also be able to teach others proper techniques so their outsourcing work is done properly. Lastly comes relationship building, which is essential for any business owner, simply because nobody wants to deal with an a**.

I'll go with the first poster and say the skill to motivate yourself to take action.

There are countless people that are 100x more skilled than most of the people here including me, and they don't make money.

Pretty much everyone will make some money by taking action. Money is everywhere.

But in terms of pure skill from someone taking action, that you can't outsource easily, I would probably say copywriting. It's too expensive to outsource for most people, and it's used in everything.

Whether you're selling an ebook, writing articles or doing advertisement of any sort, copywriting comes in handy.

OK I got personal traits and IM mixed up, so I would say

    Traffic
    Traffic
    Traffic

If you have no traffic nothing else matters
    - no list (without traffic)
    - no copywriting (without traffic)
    - no conversion (without traffic)
    - no money (without traffic)

    Cheers

      1. Copywriting
      2. Time Management
      3. Listbuilding

Copywriting is most important. Why? We're using the internet which is a 1 to many communication platform. The best way to do this is with copy... whether written, on video or audio, or a webinar it's still copy.

Time management to get things done quicker. Most people have horrible time management skills. I don't care if you're the great copywriter in the world, if you don't know how to manage and execute your copy, it doesn't matter.

Listbuilding. Your email list is your most valuable asset for on demand, high quality traffic. Therefore you should be an expert at building a list. Being good at copy helps -- also being smart about traffic generation methods that are great for list building (this is where time management helps).

  • Traffic generation, by far.

If you can get targeted traffics to your sites (own products, affiliate sites, CPA offers, you name it), you're on your way to millions.

Here's my opinion of the top 3 skills needed.

      1. Copywriting

Without a doubt, this is crucial to making money online.

It doesn't mean that you have to be a top copywriter blasting out sales letters. Just the ability to write and sell so you can improve articles, brush up on your sales letter, create better PPC ads and write better emails.

      2. Relationship

Spend time and build your network of friends. People who you can help and who can help you in return.

The more friends you have in the IM industry, the quicker your list will become, the more you will sell and the better your reputation will be.

      3. Management

You need to know how to manage your time, outsourcers and your projects. Management can be very complex but it will help you a lot if you have this skill.

Many marketers fail to advance because they're poor with managing themselves and their projects.

I can get super cheap both SEO and computer programming. I got an email offering me programmers for $3/hr if you can imagine.

However, people who write compelling copy are max expensive. Therefore the real deal is to write compelling copy. Words that can convince users. Create a website that can sell a service.
