Outsourcing article writing - help with briefing requirements

Hello warriors!

OK, I'm looking to outsource my article writing and picked a number of people to try.

Do you have any advice for briefing your requirements? How much detail do you go into?

Some people only ask for a keyword & word count, and that's it?!

What other instructions do you give? Do you have a checklist or something to use?

E.g.
- niche / topic
- examples of articles already written
- number of paragraphs
- use of subheads and bullet points?
- summary
- resource box
- deadlines, turnaround time
- keyword density
- how they check the content is original
- Revisions procedure, prices, turn-round time

Are there any common mistakes you wished you'd given instructions for?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Justin

To find the appropriate person to do the job, you must thoroughly screen your candidates skills and capabilities. Try to ask them sample write ups that they have done in their previous jobs or try to ask them to create a spontaneous article about the weather or whatever topic you might easily think of.

Try checking their language and grammar use and judge their work.

You need also to make SEO rich articles, so he will make a little keyword research in order to rank good your articles!

Justin it probably depends on how fussy you are and what you want from the article. You should definitely give them the niche and how many words you expect.

If you want the articles written around a particular keyword phrase or phrases then tell them those.

I have written for people before who have given me their own titles for the articles they want written, so that is another option and gives them more of an idea of what you want.

As far as number of paragraphs, bullet points etc, I think it often depends on the actual niche and topic as to how you set out an article.

Not all writers give a summary and a resource box, in fact I think I've only ever had one writer give me those.

You will want to know the turnaround time and when you should expect your articles completed and as long as they are writing them they should know whether they are original or not.

    Hope that helps

    Hi Justin,

you mentioned that you already picked them, so your initial question is what to expect from them, right?

My personal approach is to let 'em go. I am interested in having a look how THEY handle it! Every kind of outsourcing depends mainly on good communication, so I have a close look on if they follow up with me. What I want to see are results and I want them fast. Otherwise I could do it on my own.

Also you have to keep in mind that you pick the right person for the right job. If you have something related to females, better pick a female writer. Same goes for topics like cars and so on, which are more likely for targeting males.

When it comes to copycats, use copyscape and regret accepting anything that doesn't pass the tests.

As said, you never know until you try ;-) Outsourcing is mainly trial and error, but also depends on recommendations. I guess you did that homework when picking them up.

Any further questions? Just drop me a line. I have subscribed to too many threads here on WF and actually starting to unsubscribe!

Only order 1 or 2 articles to start out with instead of placing a big bulk order. Then see which writer does the best work for you.

I always get writing samples first. Then I start out with 5 articles. If all looks good then I will be back for more. I always do my own resource box and I also provide the keywords I am looking for.
