Promoting my First Clickbank eBook

I have just submitted my first niche ebook (dogs) to Clickbank.

Now I know that I have to generate interest for affilates to want to promote my stuff so I was thinking of, amongst other things, a blog where I put daily articles that I will also submit to directories.

My question is, can I have a blog using the same domain as the sales page? Would it be something like www.mydomain.com/blog ?

I am technically challenged so a bit of guidance would be really helpful.

Also, I would be grateful for any other suggestion for promoting my book ( sadly, at the moment it has to be free ).

I have not put an optin form on the sales page as I have read that a lot of affiliates don't want to promote products where the owner collects emails from traffic that they have sent. Is this the right thing to do or should I ad an optin form?

Thank you

Karen

Well done on getting the product up and running.

you can use the same domain/blog for a blog. In one of my niches I have a separate domain for the blog and that has worked well.

I asked this blog question a month ago and the general consensus of the replies was use the same domain.

There is a warrior here that has a product Gain Affiliates Now. I can't remember his warrior name - his real name is Drew. Its a great insight into getting affiliates
Warrior name is PDMclaughlin - There was a WSO but that's probably finished now

congrats on completing your first product. as far as promoting it, the free ways of doing it are writing articles and submitting them to article directories. once they're submitted you can put them on your blog as well. you could also create a hubpage and squidoo lens that has some articles on it and links back to your sales page.

In regards to keeping affiliates happy, you could have a landing page with no opt-in box for affiliates to promote and a separate page for you with the opt-in box for listbuilding.

Thanks for that Kenj, I will do a search to see if I can find the product that you mentioned.

Brendan, do I use the same sales page with my optin form and use that link in my articles etc?

p.s My 'thanks' button has gone missing  or I would 'thank' you both for taking the time to answer my novice questions.

p.p.s Thanks button has returned now

yes when you install wordpress (assuming you have fantastico on your cpanel) you have the option of which directory you put it in. Leaving it blank installs it in the root (same as the sales page) or put in a file name such as blog and the system will install it there. You can also have more than one blog. Like this

    domain.com/index.html (sales page)
    domain.com/blog
    domain.com/offers
    domain.com/my-thoughts

    etc etc

Why does it have to be free? Is there no value in it?

Thank you Gordon. The landing page is not Wordpress so I assume that I simply add another page to the site called 'blog' or whatever but not link it from the salespage. Then I link the 'blog' page back to the sales page. Is that the right way to do it?

The only reason that it has to be free at the moment is not that there is no value in my product but that I had a client that I did quite a lot of work for who has disappeared off the face of the earth without paying me so I don't have money for PPC just now.

No that's not the right way to do it.

        Go to:
yourdomain.com/cpanel and log in. Look for a module (generally at the bottom) called fantastico. Click on it. On the left side you'll see a list of options including an option for wordpress. click on that. When it opens it will ask you where you want it installed. There is a box there. If you leave the box blank it will install it into the root (where the sales page is) You don't want that.

In the box put "blog" (no apostrophes) and the system will create a new folder called blog in your hosting and add the wordpress files to that. It will also tell you where you can log in and start working with your blog. All you have to do past that point is to put a navigation link on your sales page to link to your blog.

          Thanks for that.

My sales page is an addon on my hosting site, so is there still a way to add a wordpress blog onto the salespage domain?

I am familar with installing a WP blog via fantasico in the normal way but adding a WP to an html website is making me dizzy...

Thank you in advance for your advice and (much needed) help.

What exactly do you mean by an add on. If you'd like to PM me the site I'll have a look at the page but assuming you say you have cpanel try to think about the structure as the same as your desktop.

You have a file folder on your desktop let's call it root. Index.html (main page) is in there. You open the root folder and create another folder in there called "blog". Now wordpress files created including index.php reside in the folder called blog.

That's the structure of a typical hosting setup for domain & blog.

Unless you want to use the blog to build the whole site. that's different.

Here is a screen shot of the folder blog sitting in the public_html folder that is the root for your domain. When you use fantastico and name the directory you want to use that is where the wordpress files reside. The system creates the folder blog automatically. To access the blog your address is yourdomain.com/blog To access your sales page your address is yourdomain.com & the index page shows.

            Karen,

it doesn't matter if your sales page is an addon domain. You can still add a wordpress blog to it. I have done this with my domains as well.

            1. In cpanel go to simple scripts or fantastico or where ever you need to go to install wordpress.

            2. It will ask you where you want to install wordpress. In bluehost it is in a dropdown menu. After the domain is a "/" and a space you can write "blog" or another name for your directory.

            3. My sales pages is www. webbusinessiare. com. It is an add on domain and I just (5 minutes ago) added a blog to it at www. webbusinessaire. com

If you need any help just PM me.

as a vendor i would be very cautious about using ppc / adwords and clickbank in the same vein, as you would run a high risk of having your account closed, even more so if your site is not perfect in every way, your better off with what your doing now and nor would i offer a ppc option to your affiliates unless your had proven results yourself.

I believe Karen means that the marketing has to be free, not her eBook.

      Karen,

Congrats on finishing your book. Article marketing is not the only free option you have. You could approach some of the larger newsletters and blogs in your niche and allow them to publish an excerpt of your book (in exchange for a link to your site). They may well be keen to get hold of some new content.

Maybe even give each one their own exclusive excerpt and if they get a good response from their readers, you could end up with an enthusiastic JV partner.

      Hope all goes well.

Yes, you can. It will be whatever you make it (but can certainly be that, if you want).

It's the right thing to do.

There's nothing to stop you from having two different sales pages, if you wish, one with and the other without your opt-in, and giving affiliates a choice which one they want to use. But if you do that, I think it would be a good idea (a) to list in the marketplace the one without the opt-in, and (b) to state clearly in both the marketplace listing and your vendor spotlight page that this is what you're doing. Having only one version of your sales page which does have a vendor's opt-in is very clearly not the right thing to do.

Good luck with your product, Karen!

      Thank you Alexa.

Funnily enough it was you that I thought of when I considered adding an optin. I have read some of your posts about it and what you have said makes perfect sense to me.

Thank you for your good wishes

Karen what is your commission rate you really need to offer the 75% max to attract loads of affiliates know this sucks but it's better to have 100 affiliates making you 25% than 20 making you 50%.

it's all about driving up the gravity and creating a viral affiliate machine and building a big customer list you can then market all sorts of related products too
