Despite how some people here will tell you they are annoyed by them, I get 300 to 500% more signups on a fly in capture or some similar type lightbox pop up than on the static sign up blocks with the exact same text.

So from a marketing perspective and a listbuilding (i.e. profits) perspective, the fly in types are a winner with me.

Also note, the next question people ask is does it cause a reduction in your traffic? The answer for me is no. My traffic has always either stayed steady or increased.

    So that is value.

You can use just about any code on a WP blog. You simply have to go into the footer or header template and enter the script code where it belongs.

There are also a number of plugins available to do this, though none I have are through the wordpress.org plugin gallery.

The one that is most flexible and easy to use for me is MaxPressBlog Subscribers Magnet.

    Hope that helps.

    Stay well.

You don't really need any plugin for that. I never understand what a plugin would do for you if you already have an AR account (like aweber).

Take the code for popup, lightbox etc. optin form from your autoresponder and paste it into the template file where you want it to appear.
    Done.

I agree with Istvan - Aweber or any of the good AR services will provide the code you need - in Aweber's case it's just a snippet of JavaScript about half a line long. Less plugins you can use the better!

And I'm also experiencing an optin rate more than 4 times higher with a light-box type optin form than with a simple inline form

    Cheers,

    Martin.

@hmigroupllc and @abledragon, how are you configuring your popup to appear? As soon as someone lands on a page, or after a certain delay. My personal preference might be on exit if that is possible (but I don't think it is).

Do any other A/R providers, like Mail Chimp, also provide script for this?

There are a number of software and plugin options, though plugins aren't required if you know how to install a simple script in your blog footer.

I vary the methods I use for my opt in pops. Most commonly, I use a delay or an exit pop. After a block has run a while, I'll often change it to appear only once in 24 hrs for a unique visitor.

I use both lightbox type and non-light box. I also use slide in or drop in. I rarely use the function for them to fade away, I "force" the visitor to cancel the box.

Aweber includes a light box capability, and it works just fine. The limitation is it can't be timed in the fashion mentioned above, so I use other plugins or script to do this.

      Have a great day.

Whoever tells you lightbox optins do not work should have there head examined. Yeah they can be annoying to some people but they work wonders. And if you offer something of great value its a win win for all.

Good idea or bad idea? You have to test.

On one of my sites I've recently been running tests of various opt-in styles. I'm testing slide-in, inline with posts, sidebar, and lightbox. So far for this site the lightbox seems to be the clear winner.

Next I'm going to test styles within the lightbox. Often I've had the best luck with a headline, an ecover, and the opt-in. Sometimes a few bullets helps, but not always.

It really doesn't matter what we like or don't like. All that matters is what works for our visitors. Depending on the niche, they could be in a completely different place than we are in regards to web usage, so our bias really has no bearing.

(Oh, and I second the recommendation of the Maxblogpress plugin. I set it for a reasonable delay and to only appear once for a given visitor.)

You know what guys? After installing a lightbox on my blogs my sign up rate increased %100.. Yes that's right, I had many visitors 0 sign ups. After a few weeks, leads started pouring in!!

So now I am split testing the forms to see what happens.

    Thanks everyone!

      Awesome!

      Nice to see it helped.

Even nicer to see you're evaluating to see if you can do better!
