Or at least I feel so... My blogs are getting bombed by bullsh#$#t comments. I can turn it off but need them on because it's how people ask questions. This trick can't possibly work? Most comments are no-follow. So why is it that so many people are using auto commenting soft? Am I missing something here? Craig |

Depending on your choice of blogging platform, there might be an option to stop spam comments as well. Wordpress uses Askimet to filter out spam comments and alerts you whenever they are posted so you can decide if they are really spam, or legit comments and you can proceed with deleting/approving them. ~ Sirius |

some just want your traffic not your pagerank. that's why they still spam you. pagerank is a bonus i'd agree captcha works pretty good |

In my experience, all comments on my blogs have been spam - except for perhaps 1 or 2. It's so ridiculous that I want to turn off Comments but I'm still hoping someday real people with real comments will make them. I've tried blog comment software but mostly it finds blogs where I can make a comment, and I do make proper ones. However, I often run into sites where a few people are running around posting the same comment on every blog they can find in their niche - and even outside of it. Yes, the software can be a helpful tool as long as you use it to add value and not just to post one-line plugs with your link. BTW, some software finds Do Follow blogs, so not all blogs are no-follow, and that's where the software proves its worth. In the end, it's more about the user. Sylvia |

Comment spam is a numbers game. Half of your comments don't get submitted right. Half of the rest get moderated. Half of the remainder are no follow. etc etc But if you put a big enough number in the top then you get a decent return out of the bottom. Same reason people send viagra spam. It converts at like 0.00000001% but they send 100s of millions of them and it costs pretty much nothing to do it. |

One reason is that people buy the latest 'guru' course that tells them to do this to get massive traffic. Yeah, right. I just Akismet the offenders and I'm done with it. Note that I do allow anchored links like "Cheap Video Games" on most of my blogs as long as the comment left is on topic and keyword rich and not of the "Great Post!" variety. And, in some cases, these may be followed links. |

Hi Craig - I think people think they can get away with being lazy and not use it the right way. They're lazy enough to use the software there probably too lazy to use it in a way that works by the sound of what you're experiencing. I have used one occasionally (see lazy remark above) that locates DoFollow and you can set the PR range to search out. However I post even to sites without any PR and that are NoFollow. You can enter multiple self profiles for different niches if you want and a auto comment. The thing is it should be used to quick fill everything but as far as the auto comment part goes, one should use that to fill the opening and close of their comment at most. If you are going to use auto comment software use it as semi automatic. If you want good results from using it you still need to read the post. You need to ask a question that isn't already answered or leave an intelligent comment that is on topic and not parrot an existing comment or what was clearly addressed in the post. Remember besides that back link you will get a small amount of traffic from the comment you leave. If you would even be slightly suspicious of the comment you're leaving if some one left it on your site don't bother wasting your time. This is especially true if you're making a first time comment. Anywhere you post the admin or moderator is looking for this. They're probably smarter than you. If you leave a generic comment it will stick out like a sore thumb. If you're going to use this sort of software leave real comments in your wake. If you don't the time you spent using your auto comment software will be an auto waste of time. |
