Finding your Niche? A newbie question.

Hello fellow warriors. I consider myself a newbie to the Internet marketing field. I have made some affiliate sales before, but nothing to bank with. I just have a few questions.

How do you find your niche? And If you find one, how do you know if its enough to build a business & product funnel around it?

Any tips would be appreciated, thanks for your time :-)

You can make money in some niches with just PPC or
whatever paid traffic methods - you don't have to get
intellectually or emotionally involved in the niche.

If you are going to go the authority/content route some
niches may be too repellent/boring for you to stay
committed too. Even if the niche is lucrative it could
be a bad fit for your abilities and values.

You can narrow your options by using keyword research
tools to assess which niches both interest you and are
being searched for in substantial numbers.

Most any niche is crack-able if you are sufficiently
    motivated to stick to it.

I tend to go after sub niches of very obvious niches. For example self development, and then I will try to tackle a subject of the actual big niche of self development.

But, to make my life easier I use certain tools. One of the tools I could not live without when it comes to market research is a product called Market Samurai is a fantastic keywords and market research tool.

It will let you know how you can compete in the search engines with certain keywords and things of that nature.

Plus, it gives you a very good idea of what the market is actually looking for.

A great tool if you ask me.

There are some other tricks that you can use as well.

One trick I always look for is if other people are advertising on Google for that niche.

If you think you have found a stellar niche and nobody is advertising inside of that niche the odds are probably that the niche is not a very profitable niche.

      Talk soon,

      Shannon

i find niches using only 2 thing in this order

    1. something i know or think i'm an expert in

    2. something that i have the desire to learn about or think is cool

ie i'm not gonna push **** berry because i don't care about the product

but i'd push something that has to do with things i'm interested in sports, gambling, social networking etc. because if i'm all in i think i can convince other to be all in as well

The key to finding a niche is to find a product that people need. For instance, people always want to lose weight.

Once you've got that very general niche, you need to magnify in a little bit and look for some sub niches because the term "weight loss" by itself is just far too competitive! You can find smaller micro niches using Google AdWords Keyword Tool (free) or Market Samurai (pay), amongst others, those are my 2 favorite.

What I do (I flip sites) is find 15 terms using the searching tools I listed above with solid searches that are all related. Then I start typing them (starting with the one with the most amount of searches) into psychicwhois.com and keep doing that until I find a domain with .com, .net, or .org available. Having a term in your domain name greatly helps for SEO for that term.

PS: Weight loss is very competitive, even at the micro level. I suggest you look around for more things people are willing to spend money on. You can use Clickbank or CPA sites to help fuel ideas for what people will spend money on.

You don't have to be invested in your niche of your choosing, but you should enjoy it. It also depends on what you'll be doing, if you're going to be article marketing and writing a bunch around the topic, then I'd recommend having some interest in it. If you're just doing PPC or related field in which you won't be constantly writing about it, I'd say it matters less.

For me I like building websites and monetizing them then selling them. I like this because it allows me to vary what I write on/learn on and I DON'T like PPC (as I find it a money hole)

I'd say find a method you like and is scalable then pick a niche you enjoy based on what type of marketing you'll be doing.
