Advice on asking JVs to send out Free Report to their Subscribers

I have just finished writing a free report and I need some tips and advices on how I should approach a potential JVs in sending my report to their subscribers.

1. Should I tell the JVs to send their subscribers to my squeeze page and the subscribers would have to enter their email to get the report?

2. Ask the JVs to send the ebook out to their subscribers attached in their emails?

3. Just ask the JV to send their subscribers to a page on my site to download it without any opting in required.

Also, does it really matter if there are affiliate links in the report, because then I have to create a custom report for every JV, but if this increase potential JV partners' compliance, I'll do it?

Anything else I need to know, please tell me.

I have never done this before, so just need some tips.

    Jason,
I would suggest either Choice 1 or Choice 2. With Choice 1, you will get cold, hard subscribers to your newsletter. However you will have to repay your friend for sending his list your squeeze page. Perhaps you could give him a certain amount of $ per each new subscriber?

With Choice 2, you could tell your friend to say: "Hey, my close friend - a very good marketer - wrote an ebook and he's giving it all to you for nothing. You can find it attached to this email. If you like what you are reading and want to find out more about him, hit up his site here:"

You see what I mean? Either 1 or 2 would be good.

if you contacted me asking to send out a report to my subscribers my first question would be...

Is it of value and would it benefit my list?

      The second question would be...

      How does this benefit me.

I worked hard to build a subscriber base and I am not going to just blast out your report just so you can get subscribers. Unfortunately, it just does not work that way.

You need to either be willing to and able to reciprocate or there needs to be some type of affiliate program in place so that I'm compensated for the traffic and drive.

Now, with that being said it is not all about making money. It's about building a solid relationship and going from there.

If a friend contacted me and wanted me to send a report to my list I would do it without thinking twice if it was a good value.

So, I would focus on building relationships before you focus on asking people to do things for you.

        Shannon, thanks for the insight!

When you mentioned the reciprocity part, would your affiliate links be enough?

          Shannon, similar question as well.

Would a JV partner be more likely to email his/her list about a free report if the JV partner could have the OTO after the opt-in?

          Thanks for your help.

Aside from EPC, In my opinion the most important thing potential JV partners want is someone who can return the favor.

            Especially in the IM niche.

Think about it. What advantage do they get for mailing your free report if they only get commission when they could go over to their good friends opt-in, make commissions, AND build good will with someone who not only knows them already, but are most likely to repay the favor of a reciprocal mailing.

Read what I said carefully. My list size is only 9,000, and I wouldn't even consider sending a free report to someone for commissions if thats all I get out of it. Think how much more the bigger guys have to deal with.

You could offer another free report to your JV's to place as a bonus on their download page, without any opt in required, then add a link in that report to your squeezepage for any people who downloaded and read the first free report to opt in.

That way if they feel they have recieved valuable content from you, they will have no worries giving you their email address to download another report.

Your JV's get a free bonus to offer their buyers etc, and you get free signups...it's a win/win situation.

Hell, you could use a $7 script on the back end and place a OTO where your JV's get a commission from any sales too, providing you give them the source code to your first free report so they can add their own affiliate link.

    Just my 2 cents anyway!

Shannon said what needed to be said.

Just some questions that pop in my mind if you approached me or anyone with a decent sized list...

    * Do I know you?
    * Can I trust you?
    * Is the report any good?
    * What have you done for me in the past?
    * What's in it for me? Commissions? I can get that on my own. Affiliate links? I can do that on my own too. What can you give me that I can't get already?
    * Why should I send my subscribers to you?
    * Do I know you?!

Now I'm sure you will get some people who say yes, but anyone who values their list and business are going to ask themselves similar questions.

You must address these in your approach if you want to get significantly more yes's.

Those are really great insights Solomon, now I am going to rethink how I am going to approach them.

But which way do you recommend I ask them to do it?

Well, everybody just told you that #1 will not work... because there is nothing there for them.

Re #2 - you can NOT tell them how to handle their list. I would never ever send out a freaking big attachment to my lists, even if you ask me to do it. Everybody hates getting huge attachments that chokes their Inbox. Forget it and don't even try to ask anybody to do it.

#3 might work... but read again everything what was posted above: WHY would they send their subscribers to your page? What's in it for them?

Everything you described as your "approach" is not JV - it's asking a favour...

    Here's a solution:
    1) Ask them if you can offer your free report on their thank you page/download page as an "unadvertised bonus". This builds goodwill new subscribers for them
    2) Tell them they can rebrand the affiliate links in the report with THEIR LINKS (if there aren't any af. links in the report..go find some. Try to find some affiliate programs with recurring commissions so the JVs do the work once but get paid MANY TIMES)
    3) Check out a program like pdfpopup pro which lets you add a subscription pop up to your pdfs in a very "soft sell" kind of way (check it out here: WSO - Pdf Pop Up Pro only $17 only here note, that's an af link...)

Make sure when you contact people you stress it's a 3 way win situation.... JVs win, Subscribers Win, You win....

    good luck..

Besides, the point others have addressed that at the end of the day you need a compelling answer for what's in it for the endorser...

Another key about creating effective viral sales reports is you need a hook. Maybe you're addressing a hot-button issue within the market others don't have answers for... offering a cutting edge technique... have insider information... entering the fray on a controversial topic, or have a credible prediction of the future your prospects need to know.

When you're trying to get your report to go viral... and get others to endorse it... anything less makes you job much harder.

Think about it like this: What would get you to tweet an article link or send an email to a friend or colleague about a piece of content? It's got to be good stuff you can't get anywhere else. Otherwise, the person receiving the recommendation may feel like you're intruding on his or her time.

When you do this, persuading others to promote it becomes much easier.

    Pretty simple really.

You put your links in the report I will not send

You don't give me a link neutral to send out I don't send

You want me to send my people to your page with nothing in it for me I don't send.

Common get real and start marketing which is all about giving not taking. You want to access my huge list which I have spent a long time building. Have a little respect.
