Too many exit pop-ups = lame, desperate marketing.

IMO, exit pops should never be used to offer discounts. They should offer something of value such as a trial (e.g. $4.95 for 7 days), a multi-pay option, or some kind of freebie.

Quite frequently many upsells and downsells on a sales page make me irritated, but that's just me as many IMers take them as an integral part of their business.
