What's the best way to interact with my members

I'm in the process of creating a tour for photo enthusiasts vacationing in St. Lucia where I live.

You can see the site here but please note it is still under construction

St Lucia Photo Safaris

Once people book a Photo Safari I plan to give them access to a members area where I will share with them a wide range of photo techniques prior to their arrival in St. Lucia.

I'd be grateful for suggestion about an effective way to do this.

I have been thinking of Google Groups or setting up a second wordpress site as a single page which would just be a blog, and password protecting it

Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Kirk, it depends on how much effort you want to put into securing this site and if you want to invest money into it.

You could go with the amember plugin to have a password protected area.
Or you can make a single site which is not indexed (specify this in the robot.txt file) and not linked anywhere on the site so people can only get to it if you send them a link to it directly.

I think the forum would probably be your best bet, or blog commenting...

Def would avoid google groups or yahoo groups... I have a strong presence in both of those, but they generally don't suit a community discussion very well...

I would say a blog, or forum if you have time something they can join into like newsletter or something.

The Simple Machines Forum can be set up so each member needs approval to join. ie, first they pay, then you check the box and let them in

It is free, takes about 3 minutes to install but can be tweaked a lot more to make adjustments. It has a huge fast answers support forum that is good, really helpful. I did see a couple of complaints in it but at least if you approach with basic good manners you should get good results.

Since it makes communication easy in so many other way, I really like it.

You could always use the Wishlist Member plugin for WordPress.

Then you could have all your content on different pages and a sort of news section on the main page. This allows you to interact with your members and keep your site secure, as they have to login to access it!

    Just an idea for you!
