Want to start my own site

Hello All,

My name is Allen. I just came across this site tonight and love what you have going on. I haven't been able to read through the entire thread, but have searched several different keywords regarding my topic and after finding bits and pieces decided to start a new topic to ask for help/insight.

I am very interested in creating a cashback shopping website. I was a bit disappointed when I came up with a great idea and saw that there were already several other large sites doing it, but I guess that just means that it is in fact a viable business model.

The questions I have for you all are

1) Do you feel that a cashback shopping site can be successful when there are already sites like BigCrumbs and FatWallet? I saw that Bing also had a cashback feature, but they ended that.

2) How much time and money do you think I'd have to put into it to make it successful? I have no problems with the time or work aspect of it. I'd put as much into it as needed because I would like to make this a large business and not a fly by night get rich quick scam.

3) Do these sites make money in other ways besides the commission that they are paid for sending traffic to the retailers and would the total profits be significant?

I have many more questions because I am in the very beginning of my research, but will wait to ask at a later time. Thank you in advance for your time and help.

I do understand that I will need to make my site different than everything else that is out there if I want to succeed. I plan to make the site smaller in scope than some of the large companies and I also want to focus on the wealth building aspects of it instead of just savings. I know bigcrumbs has a decent referal program and I would like to do something in that direction. I think it would be a huge success if people can actually make a significant source of income with a method like this instead of just saving.

I am not the best person to speak on the viability of the idea, since I am not really sure how they make their money... I suspect CPA and advertising...

Challenging big sites is not something I would automatically say no to, but I also would be very hesitant about saying yes...

Making it successful would require knowing how you are to make money with it, and understanding how you are going to attract users to it...

If you don't know the answer to either, do your research...

Although I would not automatically condemn this niche, I do always hesitate when the big competitors in the niche are major corporations... We little guys cannot keep up with their marketing budgets, and if Bing got out, try to find out why... They have the budget and got out for some reason, most likely related to their ability to generate a profit with it...

I have only tried to take on major corporations twice in two niches, auto insurance and travel... In both cases, I crashed and burned...

I find my best revenue in smaller niches...

Allen, I like the fact that you have an idea for what you.

I doubt, however that you could make this one work. There is a LOT of competition, and unfortunately cashback type offers have gotten a bad reputation.

I suggest you hang around a little bit longer and start taking notes on how you can start making some money. Also, I recommend you get a domain name as soon as you've chosen something you want to market.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will be sticking around and I'm going to continue to do my research. The fact that Microsoft left the market didn't look too good to me and I have to find out why. I also realize that taking on well established websites will be hard and I will not do it until/ if I find a way to set my site apart. I do want it to be more of a niche website instead of a large shopping mall. I think that might make my chances better. For now I will continue learning about as many things as I can until I determine if this is worth pursuing or not.

      Thanks again.

I am really not sure to how you would make it work. What I recommend you do first is start off with a more specific niche. The niche would also need to be something you either have experience in already or have a vast interest in. By doing this it would help you to understand how to make your original option work as well as give you a feel for how much it would cost to design and run a site.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of markets out there that you can get started in. If you need help finding a market to get into I recommend you go to Free Affiliate Marketing Guide and get my free guide to coming up with a idea and getting you started on your marketing campaigns.

I wish you the best of luck which ever route you choose. The warrior forum will also help you every step of the way if you every need any help. All you have to do is ask as you just did with this post.

How about you choose a niche where people feel pain, or they are embarrassed about their problem and they would rather buy staff online rather than talk to somebody face to face for solution. I hope you get an idea. Do your research and read plenty of great posts here. Before you start read some pro and cons of given business model etc. Good luck
