What are the most ESSENTIAL tools for any internet marketer?

As internet marketers who have been in the business for quite a while, we have acuired countless tools that help us run our business. A lot of these we can't live without.

If you have to give newbies advice on which tools to get first, what would it be?

Lets try and make a list of the most essential tools for internet marketers, especially newer marketers who wants to start a sustainable online business with product creation and internet marketing.

I will start us off:

1. Webhosting (duh!)
2. Autoresponder, like Aweber.
3. Wordpress (If you plan on building blogs)
4. Camtasia (or Cam Studio for free alternative)
5. Photoshop (or GIMP for free one)
6. ???

Let see if we can get this to a top 20 list.

I personally think that correct mode of advertising should also be included in this list. It plays important role in internet marketing and is included or should be included in internet marketing.

there's a bluefart way to get free camtasia and photoshop licences tho. But it's not recommended because it violates their TOS.

WSO: I PROMISE/GUARANTEE you that this will be the LAST WSO you will ever need to purchase!

Here's the thing. The above may seem too good to be true but all I can say is there isn't even 1% hype or BS in the above sentence. This WILL BE YOUR LAST WSO to purchase.

I'll just reiterate what some of the other members have said. As someone who is still in the learning process (but not a total newbie), the most important thing I have learnt is that you have to use the tools in the most appropriate way. I suppose what I am saying it's a marathon, and small efforts, using all the right tools pay big dividands.

I'm watching the thread with a macabre fascination. I just know that it's going to fill up with a list of "essentials" most of which I've never used, don't particularly want to, and some I've never even heard of. (There were three I've never seen/used/needed in the first five alone!). I'm "just saying".

Photoshop! People who can get a grasp on the graphics portion of things will be no worse for the wear. Now I'm just going to think of a reason why it's essential. Back in a bit.:p

This reply by Alexa puts it so eloquently that I can not "compete" to add anything in that style, beside saying that I agree 110%!

I am just wondering how an FTP client and a graphic creation/editing tool could come up as equally "essential"... That's why I find all this type of threads totally useless and waste of time and bandwidth. They result in fruitless debates about personal opinions.

Yes, if you are in any web-related business you should be able to upload/download files via FTP. That's a given, I think.

However, I don't ever plan to mess with any graphics program because I can always outsource it and I don't want to learn it. I am not interested in graphic programs, I don't want to use them, I am not downloading or buying them, I don't even want to know about them. Period. So, NO, it is not "essential" to learn all the possible programs out there.

There are no universally essential tools...

For me, the biggest tool is between my ears... Most days anyway... :p

I did spend some time running from this app to another app.... then I decided to follow my own advice that I give to my computer clients - Find what works for you, and get to know it inside out. If you see something that looks good to replace one of your existing tools, make darn sure that it REALLY is worth it to go through the work to learn the new app. And keep in mind what your 'support group' has experience with... If your new mentor really digs Filezilla, don't expect to get much help with SmartFTP from the mentor's forum... cause everyone else is using what the mentor recommends.

Finding your toolset, and then being able to leverage your tools - It's an incredible time saver, reduces frustration, increases productivity, and helps you to maintain your focus on what really matters - Getting Your Product In Front Of An Audience!

I guess it is as the saying goes: It is not what tools you have, but how you use it.
