I'm sure there is as long as he is getting plenty of traffic. However, blogging is definitely not a quick way to riches.

    Let me get this straight.

Your brother has a vast knowledge of Marxism and socialism.

And he'd like to make money with it.

Well, it's worked for Michael Moore... and anyone who has ever printed and sold a "Che" t-shirt.

  • lol i know, it sounds a bit strange but im not talking about selling stuff to people, im just talking about setting up a WP blog, posting his views and news from around the world and hopefully get some revenue from the adsense

im doing the same thing with a music blog, ive done no SEO or advertising what-so-ever, i just post music i like, my blog earns avg. £5 per day. It got me thinking, the reason why my blog is successful is because i have passion for my music , its the same for my brother, he has a passion for the views of Karl Marx so i thought maybe this could be something for him.

Nothing is impossible, if the blog becomes popular enough. Perez Hilton is said to have 7-figure annual AdSense earnings. Mind you, he's blogging about salacious celebrity gossip: call me a skepchick but I suspect that may be likely to attract rather more traffic from AdSense-clickers than Marxism and socialism will.

The rule is "if there are advertisers, you can earn".

I imagine there are tons of advertisers in the music niche anxious to reach music fans. Which is why you are making money.

But I don't think there are any in the politics niche. Even if he was writing about mainstream politics, I don't think he'd get relevant advertisers, outside election time.

Has your brother got a hobby that advertisers are interested in?

I have a few comments for you:

    a) blogging for the sake of blogging wont get you much money, you need to follow the basic business principles, you need to solve somebody's problems in order to get paid.

    b) Marxism blog? I doubt a lot he can make a living on that, why? because going to point number 1 who's problem he is trying to solve?

    c) Maybe a best way to get revenue with that profile would be writing articles for somebody else.

    Hope it helps.

Since Lenin died in 1924 and old Grigory died in 1936, I think their problems are well solved by now.

For (paid) adsense ads to appear, somebody has to be able to make money from something. His posts would need to relate in some way to something a) that people are searching for (whether or not he knows that they are searching) and b) that connect in some way to goods, services or ideas that people are trying to sell.

Google will do a content analysis in order to determine what ads will appear.

If he does posts, for example, about applied Marxist theory and healthcare, there may be a chance of getting healthcare related ads. However, if he writes only general posts about Marxist theories in general, the most he can hope for are ads about obscure books that might only generate a couple cents per click (if that much).

The New Statesman is a left wing site which has large earnings. The Right of center Guido Fawks blog also makes $1000's maybe even $10,000 every month as does conservativehome.com.

A useful aspect of running these sorts of blogs is the media profile that is gained. The owner gets invited to top media oulets and it can be very well paid. Andrew Sullivan is another who does very well.

Left wing or right wing it doesn't matter if you have something newsworthy to say , it means a high profile, means traffic, means good revenues.

It's fairly orthodox/mainstream, though: a very far cry indeed from Marxism, I think? The magazine whose website it is was also established many decades ago.

        I adamantly disagree with you.

In fact, one recent poll showed conservative's use of the internet for blogging and political activisim surpassed the left. Can't remember when/where and too lazy to look it up.

I was actually just reading an article about political bloggers and how much they do indeed have the ability to make. The article I read mainly focused on people who have a blog with a political view that sits on one side or the other of the fence, and then sell advertising space to campaigns. Though for this to work you have to have an established well read blog, however some of the money that political campaigns will pay for super targeted advertising is outrageous.

  • thankyou all for the opinions

just to be clear im not wanting to start a politics blog to make money, my brother would do it to spread the word and grow the awareness of socialism, if he makes a few dollars per day from it then that just a bonus, i was only asking if money could be made to see if someone already has a blog like this, im not expecting my brother to make a living from this, $1 per day would be a happy amount for him, he has no job so $30 per month is better than nothing.

Hes at home all day and i thought this could be a good thing for him to do.

Im sure he will do it even if there was no money in it, he'll probably donate all profit to the bolivian workers tbh

If anything he could take advantage of the conservative crowed and the disdain they have for Marxism and socialism.

Selling them anti-Marxism/socialism widgets and simply using those keywords and related ones to drive traffic. Its a hot topic right now so competition will be a tad fierce.

As long as he gives back his acquired wealth to the needy from the success of his site then he wont be a hypocrite.

Of course, then he'll need to go get a "real" job to support his new social cause. Oh what a tangled web we weave.

Nobody said this would be easy.

One avenue is to show eBay items(using EPN) so Marxism believers can support your brother in their own way by buying Marxism(1028) or socialism(3034) related items so he can live and spread the "marxist/socialist word" like you say.

Even if he keep the money, I'm sure that if he ever make more than enough to sustains himself ... after taxes :p, he would donate part of the extra to charities or something he support elsewhere in the world. That could be part of his "social" pact with them.
