Obviously Techsmith is working hard to compete with Mac's screenflow with the 3d tilt and hd quality for web features. I personally don't think this should be a major version update...

    Hope it is worth it.

I just tried to upgrade and I keep getting an error. Very frustrating. I'm actually in the middle of doing a camtasia series for a product I'm creating. So, this is perfect timing for me to test this thing out.

      Have you upgraded yet Lon?

I just checked the what's new video (75MB) and it has a feature that I think should have been there earlier: splitting video and audio track. Now I must upgrade...

    I think it's a disgrace. I paid about $150 to upgrade to
5 at the beginning of July and after only 4 months they
expect me to pay another $150.

Looking at the new features I don't see anything that
will allow me to add any real value to my end users
    experience.

For those that recently purchased v5, check with Techsmith Customer Support.

They generally make some provisions for those that purchase just before an upgrade version.

The major features that I see are:

H.264 rendering option (MUCH smaller file sizes and increased quality)

And anyone who has read any of my posts on editing in Camtasia Studio (or who own my product) you've heard me say time and time again that I do NOT use Camtasia as my editor.

    Why?

Because the audio and video were married together. This is completely worthless! In Camtasia v6, this is no longer the case.

While it's better now I will still probably use Sony Vegas as my editor because it's...well...a full featured editor. It will take more than adding the most basic of video editing capabilities (like ripple audio and video tracks) for me to live in CS.

The rest of the features are mostly cosmetic. The tilt effect is cool...I've done it for over a year but use Adobe After Effects to do it. I may use Camtasia for it now...

And the completely re-designed recorder interface is nice (the restart feature is time saving).

And hotkeys are something I will use but...hardly groundbreaking.

Bottom line for me is that my business is built around Camtasia so I'll be upgrading. Always and right away.

For many others, the two major features and little extras may well be worth it. I suggest you try the free 30 day trial to see. It's fully functional and installs separately from your previous version (I run versions 3 - 6 on my computer).

Every day I check the obituaries. If I don't see my name there, then I know it's going to be a good day!

The streaming file in the what's new page is in mp4, so they are able to stream mp4 now with the player, which is cool.

I haven't checked this, but most likely they use the new flv container from Adobe that allows mp4 format.

Have just upgraded... look great, but there's still no feature to adjust specific window to fit in specific size but I can live with it...
