Default RSS: What Are Your Burning Questions?

Hi all,

I created a free guide about RSS which aims to answer frequently asked questions about RSS and give an overview etc.

I would love to hear what RSS questions you might have, so I can add value to the guide.

Thanks!
Karen

I have always wondered if I can be making extra money with my RSS feed. Such as adding some sort of content as Adsense to it.

I would like to know where is the best place to submit RSS feeds, and what is the best software to use when submitting.

How to add RSS feeds easily to HTML sites that already exist.

How to protect RSS feeds from scrapers (or utilize them to help you).

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

RSS advertising is a whole other topic, but I think I will try to cover some of that in the guide. Stefani, I'm going out of town for a week tomorrow with little-to-no internet access but when I get back, we can hook up if you want to chat more about this.

Bill - definitely cover this in the guide already but I might expand upon it. IMO, the best software to submit RSS feeds is one that acts just like humans do - no footprints! There are RSS aggregators coming out of the woodwork lately but some of the notable ones (ones that you see most often on the top results in the serps) are Feedagg.com and Feedage.com.

I didn't get into adding RSS feeds to HTML sites much but that's a great area to expand upon - thanks!

Now your second one - that's good! That's a legitimate concern many site owners face. I cover some of this topic already but your post just sparked a few more ideas!

I have your rogue guide but cannot quite figure out the big picture. For instance, my wife's nice is quilts. how-to-quilt.org and my daugher's is sewing...sewing-accessories.net. I understand that we should be submitting their feed to the 55+ or so RSS Guides. What I do not understand is how to enhance that with your rogue guide. Since it is a trade secret; you can PM me with a short answer. I am just not getting the big picture in context. If you had quilting and sewing, how would you use RSS and how would you also use Rogue?

Charles (and Evita), I completely understand your questions and what you mean about the big picture. I only have a few minutes on the pc right now so I don't have the time to answer in detail.

Charles I will PM you this evening (EST here) regarding your questions and expanding upon Rogue etc.

Louis - thanks! I've been super busy but have some great tips lined up and plan on updating the free guide with a ton more info too.

Karen,

I'm wondering about the author feeds from article directories. I know I can submit that around to rss sites but are people interested in using that on their site (especially if it's a mix of topics)?

Also some people say you can ping a webpage, articles etc and it doesn't have to even be an rss feed or a blog. Is that true?

Hi Deb
A strong benefit of submitting your RSS feeds to the RSS aggregators is more ability to rank in the search engines and gaining backlinks. While it's true that targeted content within a feed is equally as important as providing targeted content elsewhere, you can still gain from the other benefits.

Also you can definitely ping regular websites (not just blogs). I wrote about that in my blog (Are You Pinging? : lushprofits.com) and mentioned a site Pingler.com .
