What cms to use for a membership site?

I would love some pointers on what cms is used for sites that have a members area.

I would like to be able to do the following:

- Special members area (secured)
- Surfer pays for membership -> receives his membership info (username : password) automatically after payment and can login to the membersarea where he can read all info about the product. (Inc. embedded videos etc).

Anyone who can help me with this? Im looking to set things up with clickbank.

Thanks!

Personally - I'd use Drupal - it does most of what you want pretty easily. Take a look at Drupal Commons. You'll also need ubercart & this -> http://www.ubercart.org/docs/user/33...ole_promotions

wishlist plugin and wordpress is a very powerful combination and very easy to use. I have it on both my main sites and can't fault it. Wishlist also has a great members site itself where you can get lots of help developing your site. Another advantage is that wishlist is good to go with paid membership via paypal, clickbank, shoppingcart etc

Hi, I just did a membership site on wordpress, used dlguard for processing and membership, as long as it is 1 level membership. I then made a separate salespage and submitted to clickbank. DLguard takes care of protecting the area and automating signin, passwords. I looked at wishlist too for membership, they allow multi level memberships.

wordpress is one of the most veristile cms providers out there. I have thought about starting a membership site my self and when I was I was going to use wordpress to do so. All you need to do is get a simple plugin for the membership area where it would be stored in a directory of your chossing. Keep in mind though that running a membership site the site it self is what the members want and not you. I have been to far to many membership sites where the owner puts up a great idea for the site then decides the people coming in to the site are not the ones they want. So keep in mind to be successful with a membership site you need to provide a good service as well as a good support system. If you are going to have your members promoting your site let them promote it their way and not the way you want them to promote it. Provide them with things they can use for promotion as well for it will help them understand the type of members you want on the site. I wish you the best of luck

As somebody that's developed around Drupal, Joomla and WordPress as well as years of hand-built stuff, I'd say if you're having to ask the question, the answer is probably WordPress.

For bigger, more complex sites, if the customer has no preference, I go for Joomla, but as what you're describing is a run of the mill (in a technical sense, I'm sure your content wont be) membership site. Then WordPress and a Membership Plugin should have you up and running in minutes.

One tip though, do a bit of research on these forums on which membership plugin to use, there are better, cheaper (and if today's rumor in twitter is true, more secure) options than WishList.
