Alcohol and Website Migration Do Not Mix

Last night I enjoyed a few vodka sours while watching the election coverage and decided at about midnight that it would be a great time to migrate one of my websites from Joomla 1.0 to Joomla 1.5.

After reading the first couple steps of the tutorial I did what I usually do.... I hauled ass through the rest of the steps without really consulting the tutorial and just doing it on the fly.

Well, after finishing up, I went to my website and was greeted with a mess of sql errors that were completely beyond my level understanding. Luckily, I had backed up the site and the database prior to starting the migration, so I was able to restore everything back to 1.0 and the site is operating fine.... but I think I will be outsourcing this little task to somebody that has a little experience with it.

Anybody have experience with this?

LOL - instead of drunk posting, it's drunk migrating a website. I don't know which is worse. At least you backed up your site before you attempted the upgrade.

Many of the plugins that you used for Joomla 1.0 will not work for Joomla 1.5, so you will have many problems in that regard. You will need to add plugins one at a time to see if they are compatible (many are not) with Joomla 1.5.

Did you follow the instructions here: Migrating from 1.0.x to 1.5 Stable - Joomla! Documentation
