Free Credit Score My %&#@

I was bored so I thought I'd check my credit score at one of those "Get your
free credit score" offers.

When I finally get to page 3 of the form, it asks me for my credit card for
my $1 fee.

Huh? That AIN'T free.

I know it's only a buck, but that is just blatant false advertising.

Kind of reminds me of those hidden forced continuity deals except this is
worse.

Free should be free, right?

And no, there were NO disclaimers that there would be a $1 processing
charge or anything like that.

I really should report these guys.

What do YOU think?

Ever notice that people who spend money on WSO, memberships and courses, are always complaining about being broke and not making any money ?

They should have bought ASSETS instead.

It is a free report. But the recurring monthly program isn't.

This is the site you were probably looking for. It really is free. But only once every 12 months.

Edit: Fico scores are never free. And vary dramatically from one company to the next.

    Steven,

Most if not all of those 'free' credit report services only provide it for free if you agree to sign up for their credit watching programs where they monitor your activity.

I would check to see if you have inadvertantly signed up for such a program.

Btw, some of them provide good value and will alert you if anything unusual appears on your report. I used one for several years and was happy. Not sure why I let it expire, it was $29.95 a year, and if nothing else, I knew someone was watching my back.

Don't know if it's the same in the US, but here in the UK just checking your credit score can actually have a negative effect on your score!!

OK to do it once or twice but don't get in the habit of it.

In the US, if you are checking your own score, it does not hurt it.

You are entitled to a free report from each of the 3 agencies once a year. More than that is $15.00 each unless it has gone up this year.

Just log into each site and give them your info. Never give your info to a third party.

Yeah, they are almost never free. It is ASTOUNDING but, sadly, the FTC is doing LITTLE about it. HECK, I PAID for my report and they SURREPTITIOUSLY decided to disable things! So, had I not KNOWN my status, and been careful, etc... they could have merely charged the whole year, and told me everything was fine while my credit went down the tubes!

They try to CLAIM that it is free because you can cancel after the report, etc... What they WANT you to do is get all three reports, and get any of the various upsells they offer. Now THAT should be outlawed. EVERYONE knows, and they ADMIT, that they are INACURATE and nobody trusts what they say. THEIR response? Get the top THREE! HECK, I have one card listed on my reports TWICE! They just won't match it up right. That means that they think they CATCH a mistake by getting all three reports, when they really CAUSE one.

The WHOLE "INDUSTRY" is a scam that should be SHUT DOWN!
