I'm not making this thread to brag, although I feel pretty darn good about it

Yes, I broke the $10K/mo ceiling for the first time in August. I started marketing here on WF in earnest in January 2010, so it's taken 9 months to get this far. And of course I'm nowhere near sustainable reliable can-count-on-it $10K/mo.

The lessons learnt:
  • Provide value
  • Price it right -- sometimes more is better
  • Love your customers to death
  • Polite, polite, polite -- even though some customers are clearly missives from hell, keep your cool
  • The money *IS* in the list, if you treat the list right
  • JV's and collaborations -- the ticket to growth
  • The biggest lesson of all -- YOU CAN DO IT!
My next goal is $10K/mo reliable.

Congratulations! The biggest constraint to earning as much as you want, may it be $10k a month, or whatever is your goal, is your beliefs. $10k a month is a lot for a "normal job" but it's very realistically attainable in IM. But if you don't see yourself there, and don't believe it's possible, it will never happen

Good Joe - congrats. I have always loved your War Room contributions too.

Thanks for sharing your motto and primary thoughts.

How did you mainly achieve it? Creating products and running JV with other partners, or using your list to JV with other people's product launches?

If they were your products, did you launch only with JV partners, or on other places such as Clickbank, Warrior Forum etc?

Did your WSOs have a significant role to play? If so, how?

Great questions, Fred, and also thanks for the kind encouragement!

First of all the entire income is from WSOs. I still have not done a lot of marketing outside of WF. So that's a big lesson in itself -- you can hit $10K/mo with a couple successful WSOS

Second, my biggest and most constant success is via the backlink packets. It's a continuity program for just $10/mo and has an incredible 70% retention at 6mo. It still, after 9 months, provides a steady $3K/mo.

I did a lot of cross promotion, but only with people whose products I trust and like -- Muz Azar, Dave Seisner, SMS, and a few others.

I built a list of 3500 subscribers so far, neatly segmented into paying customers (per product) and freebie seekers. I email them every time I do a WSO and response has been awesome. My friends also email and their lists have been very responsive to my products so far.

Apart from the backlink packets, I concentrate on building software that solves problems people hit daily. My latest WSO is an example of such a problem, how to find keywords that people are looking for when in a buying mind frame.

And the clincher -- just to show how totally naive I am (still) -- I only now am setting up an affiliate program with e-junkie. All my preceding sales to date were made on word of mouth, cross promotion, and friendship. An affiliate program for one's products is absolutely a must and how I plan to reach my $10K/mo predictable income goal.

The best affiliates you can have are your paying customers. Just a hint

Thanks Joe, tremendous post. Yes, I had purchased a WSO from you and without going into any details let me just say that I thought that one was very nice .

I completely agree - if you own your own products then it is affiliates that can skyrocket your income. Let the marketers combine hands and market (your product) rather than you doing it alone.

Another point here - if you still accept payments by only Paypal and want to scale in a manner that burst sales in short spans are a part of it (such as some big and responsive list owner sending an email to his/her list with your product and that convert high, or a webinar that generates a number of sales on the spot) then it is critical that you look at a proper merchant system rather than Paypal-like systems (that are semi-baked in my opinion when it comes to providing end-to-end business solutions in scenarios like ours) - Paypal can be a nightmare to promise the least. Trust me, it will help you in the longer run.

Good job Joe! Consistency is the key. As you know, $10k one month can turn into $1k the next. Unfortunately I know all to well about this..

I don't normally count how much I make each month, but this thread encouraged me to do so. I looked back to my best month, April this year. After the calculator went rat-a-tat-tat, I came up with some figures that really surprised me..

    Revenue - $51,531
    Costs - $26,045

    Profit - $25,486

In August.. I barely did $1k Not to worry, I don't think it will be hard to get back to $20k+

    Good luck!

I had been doing $10k a month for over a year but I was not able to push my income any further... until I broke into JV'ing with partners. The first month I started doing JVs with other marketers, those 10k transformed into 30k to 40k almost instantly, and it's stayed there ever since.

Conclusion: there comes a point when the only way to grow is sheer expansion, and that's where JVs come in play.

I have a day job of 200hr/mo. I put in about 90hr/mo into the internet marketing. So hour for hour, the IM work is more profitable

Once I go full time, kicking the "salary habit" so to speak (and it's when not if) I can see how to do 20K, 30K, maybe even more, per month.

Yes, I've reached the point of cutting off customers a few times:

      * The idiots that think that they've got a monopoly on your time because they paid you $17,
      * The impatients that want a reply as soon as they hit SEND and don't accept that you have a life,
      * The infinite questioners that send you a new question immediately when you reply to their latest one,
      * The nincompoops that think that if a product doesn't work it's a conspiracy to steal their money and you have it in for them personally,
      * The conspiracy theorists that think that every testimonial is fake,

and of course everyone's all time favorites

      * The serial refunders-and-keepers that use the slightest excuse to ask for a refund

      Etc.

              Thanks John (and everyone)

I can tell you that the 10K month was a sea change for me -- when I actually *knew* I could do it. And then I sat down and developed a realistic plan on how to do it again and again, and how to get to whatever next goal I set myself.

Now I know I can do it, I know *how* I can do it, and I know how much hard work I need to do to do it (hint: lots ).

Even though there's hard work ahead, it all looks very easy since it's clear to me what each step's purpose is and what the effect will be on my success.

And that's so super motivating that I've actually set myself a crazy goal -- kick the "salary habit" by July 2011 by replacing my (very considerable -- I'm a lucky dood) salary.

I'll be keeping this thread alive with updates, so that you can all share in the successes and inevitable setbacks I'll experience along the way.

              LETS DO IT!

I was just curious, what traffic generation method are you using that has been the most effective and profitable for you?

        Hi Sonam

I think its a bit different than you imply in your question. There's no one thing that's most effective. Rather, you have to (be lucky and) apply the right tool at the right time.

What I mean is that you have to build a list, then use the list to create JVs, then use the JVs to get a bigger list, and so on and so forth. Each stage is a step to the next one, it seems to never end. Don't get discouraged when you cannot see what to do next, it's not necessary to always get it right and there's certainly more than one "right" way

The best source of traffic is my list. My list came from JVs and from the warrior forum. Other people were generous enough to do JVs with me on a barter basis, I promote their product and they promote mine. So that way I get traffic and new members on my list, from fresh lists which often have very little overlap with the list I have. That's how you grow

        Hope I answered the question.

Oh and I never ever ever pay directly for traffic. I'm willing to pay affiliate commissions, no problem, because the incentive structure is set up right (they only get paid if I get paid), not so with traffic you have to pay for directly.

So warriors, you heard it straight from the Horses' mouth, A.K.A Joe the $10K/month Guy! ...

"The best source of traffic is my list. My list came from JVs and from the warrior forum."

So if you're struggling to get traffic and have been desperately hoping to get the chance to ask someone who is making a full time income online then look no further than your own list or start becoming hyper-active on the warrior forum if you have no list to start building relationships/future JV's/generating leads.

Thanks again Joe. Your advice has offered me some golden nuggets that I and my fellow warriors (I hope) will apply immediately.

Let us know when you get to that $10K a month reliable.

Wow thanks for such a precise and helpful explanation of the process you've gone through to achieve your $10,000 mark Joe.

I'm currently building my list in the internet marketing niche right now and also have an already established list of 60 people in my other niche outside of internet marketing.

I am working my butt off trying to get traffic to my website, since I've learned from experience that traffic is the lifeblood of any business.

However, I hope to VERY SOON be able to do some JV's like you have in order to rapidly grow my list.

But I suppose I would need a list of over 500 in order to be able to do a JV.

In any case, I'm glad that you said that your "list" has been your best source of traffic as I am already in the phase of building my list right now.

Thanks again for your honest and thoughtful advice Joe.

Let us know when you hit that "10k/month reliable". We'll all throw a cyberspace party for you here on the forum!

Thanks for the inspiration! It really means allot... I'm getting discouraged every now and then when things don't go my way.

Was interested in the continuation circle you mentioned:

You have to build a list, then use the list to create JVs, then use the JVs to get a bigger list, and so on and so forth.
Also, if you don't mind me asking, how did you start of building your list? Simply by doing WSOs?

Yes, my list started from doing a WSO and from doing postings in the war room when it was still allowed to squeeze for an email.

I did a very successful free WSO (>1200 signups) and from that I built a buyers list with my backlinks product (>400 signups) so ... conversion of 1:3 -- pretty radical.

This point you touched on above is what has allowed WSOs to launch the internet marketing careers of many warriors in here. Many people (newbies especially) just don't see the point of running a low-priced or free WSO, but this is what allows you to build a list of responsive buyers (especially in the case of low-priced WSOs) WHILE earning money in the process!

Typically you'd have to pay for advertising and/or put in lots of time and effort to drive traffic to your offer, but by running a WSO you're basically running a self-funding list building campaign, as you're getting paid by each subscriber (buyer) instead of the other way around!

This is the true power of running WSOs that very few people realize to this day!

congrats joe, that is awesome. i think the valuable lesson is to build a list of raving fans and constantly give them value - solve their problems - help them become successful. then find similar leaders in your niche and create relationships with them (and their customers). many of us (me included big time) have focused so much on keywords, blog format, plugins, seo, linking, robots - our success is 100% based on some google robot and computer to rank in top 3 of serps... had we spent time focused on a core group of people, who want what we are selling, and we create relationships with them, i am guessing we would be far more successful.

Thats rather impressive for someone who just started a few months ago. I just have to ask though is this really your first time with IM. Or have you tried it before and failed then dusted your self off got back up and tried again learning from the mistakes you made the first time.

The only reason why I ask this is the simple fact that only 1 out of ever 100 people starting off with im will always fail atleast once or twice. If you have not failed atleast once you are the extremely gifted 1% who actually made it on your first try.

I don't have experience with clickbank and CJ so cannot say anything about that. But Amazon is easy actually. I had a network of blogs created with Rob Fore's method that were making $30/mo on average. Amazon is a scaling game, you have to have many sticks in the fire and then the numbers add up.

As I said I sold that network and the numbers described in this thread are stricly from IM. I don't agree however that they're strictly from WSOs. I use WSOs to get a list, the really big numbers come from the LIST.

          Thanks!

But I have to remind you, and everyone else -- THIS IS ABOUT YOU. It's about how you can do what I did.

Also a bit of an update -- so August was great ($10K), September was OK ($5K) and October looks like it's going to be lame (<$3K). Not every month is a break-out month.

My goal still stands: $10K/mo reliable by June 2011, and I've put into place a lot of the parts that I need to get there:

          * A solid list building machine
          * An affiliate program with 50% payout so that affiliates will run to promote my tools, all of them programs in desperate niches that basically sell themselves
          * Emphasis on customer service
          * A WSO review service which helps me find JVs (see signature)
          * Actively reaching out to potential affiliates and JV partners on the forum here, daily

If you slack, the income goes down. Sometimes slacking is necessary, when you have to do foundational work and can't bang out products. That's just the way things are.

Joe, you have really been CRUSHING IT!!!!!! I really appreciate you outlining what you do and how you are doing it -- it is so motivational and educational. You have done very well for yourself in such a short period of time!

Making $10k/month in reliable and consistent income is one of my goals, too. I'm going to get together a vision board (a project I have been intending to work on for months) and map out my goals, business models, dreams, and ideas I plan to bring to fruition. This vision board will be placed next to my desk to help me focus and hone in on the things I want to accomplish within a certain time line.

It appears that you really jump into IM/AM with a lot of confidence and made some significant strides right away. In other words, you took immediate action and made adjustments along the way until you hit upon a combination of things that worked for you -- and it didn't take you very long.

I'm looking forward to all your future updates and your "$10k/month reliable" announcement!

    JOB WELL DONE!

      Summary of 2010:

Remember this is starting from $0 income in IM. I started in IM with my first product on January 19, 2010, and released 4 more products during the year.

The bulk of my income is from this first product, the backlinks packets in my signature.

Total income (before costs & taxes) in 2010: $53289

In there I had my first $10K month, my first $1600 day, and several $1000 days -- not bad for a greenhorn like me. I also built a list of 5600 subscribers from scratch in 2010.

Goal for 2011: more than double it and break $120,000 -- i.e. get to consistent $10K a month. And build my list to 30,000.

Thanks for breaking this down, Joe. I think this goal is very realistic and achievable, especially since you've a consumable product that needs to be purchased monthly (your backlink packets), and I feel that you should concentrate your efforts on marketing the socks off of it, now that you know you have a great product on your hands.

      Someone sent me these questions:

      Hey Joe,

I recently saw one of your threads and it struck me with inspiration that followed with a few questions. What was the way you started? Are you outsourcing your products? Also, With who? Is it possible to start with $300 net?

      Thanks for the answers,
      And I answered:

The way I started was I saw some problems with a product I thought I could fix, and built a better product. This is a subscription product which pays continuously, and is the source of most of my revenue.

I outsource everything I can. At this point the above-mentioned product is outsourced 80-90%, I do the mailing list management and the rest of it is all done by a virtual assistant.

And yes, you can definitely start with $300 or less. My only investments were to get an autoresponder and to pay for WSOs. So I started with an investment of $100 or less.

And the last & most important part: *ALL* of my revenue for 2010 came from WSOs and backend sales from those WSOs.

      Thanks for the continued replies.

Yes, its VERY possible to earn $10K in a month, I did it in August so I know it's possible. And I wasn't even trying, it just happened because I had several products out.

Yes, its also VERY possible to earn $10K in a month selling other people's products, but probably harder. I haven't been able to hit that goal yet.

To those that express (self?)-doubt, you need to believe and want the 10K in your account Then you'll work hard towards it and eventually hit it. There's lots of things to stop you, don't add your self doubts

Report from the last few months:

      August $11403
      September $5034
      October $3764
      Nov (till today) $2297

Note that these numbers are sales, not net income.

So I know I did 10K once, and I know how to do it again. But instead of pushing for that right away, I decided to (a) stabilize my recurring membership business to get around $2500 each month and (b) invest in creating my own series of products which will hit the market starting January. I think with the incidental sales of one-payment software products, I'm going to hang around $3500, which is pretty comfortable

I should change my name to "The Transparent Warrior"

$10k/month is pushing $300/day and closing in on $350/day. Congrats on breaking the $300/day marker. $300/day was where I was able to drop everything else and stick with internet marketing full-time.

I hope you don't think that I am telling you how to run your business, I'm not, I just want to share my experience. I found out that at this point, instead of refining my method or trying to scale up my operation it was a far better investment to hire some assistants and start letting them run everything for me.

$300/day on my own was great but $250/day without working was awesome! Once I got everything completely automated I started scaling up my operation to $500/day and beyond. There really is a ton of money to be made but automation is a beautiful thing and I'll shell out the costs anytime.

Hi Mad Hat, yeah I already employ 5 VAs. You're right on the money that it's very hard to scale up and hold down a day job without help. In fact, I'm writing a WSO with one of my best VAs on how to manage VAs, based on my and her experience. It'll be a no-hold-barred expose'

Agree 100% that if you can invest $50/day to buy more time, dont think twice, DO IT.

P.S. And no, you're not telling me how to run my business -- you're contributing your valuable and very valid insights

You hit the nail on the head there. Everyone of us has only got 24 hours per day, and between our other daily responsibilities (which includes a job for some of the people here) and our IM, there's only so much we can do each day. The key to scaling up is replacing yourself with outsourced workers, so that there can be 2,3 5, or even more "clones" of you doing all the daily required work to rake in the big money!

    Joe, Congrats!

I'm assuming that's from product launches and the IM niche? That is pretty achievable. If you'd like more reliable and stable income, check out other niche markets like "furniture stuff" etc.

These markets don't have ninja SEO's and aggressive competition.

I have adsense sites and niche sites that's basically set and forget and still earning me up to this day.

But I can say if you want fast bucks but real hard work, step on into the IM niche, which I'm sure you're already doing.

Good Luck to attaining $10K and more per month

      Enzo thanks!

This is all from the IM niche. I am good at writing software, so that's where I'm going to make my money. If you heard about ubot for creating automation programs, well, I'm creating my own platform that solves some of the problems "made possible" by ubot I intend to build quite a few products based on my own platform, and I intend to make lots of recurring subscription fees that way. My heroes are the guys who own SeNuke and other such software -- they charge $127/mo because their product is worth it... That's the kind of product I think the IM niche will eat up.

        Hi Joe,

Yes I Know Ubot as I've used SEO tools made from ubot. Dont tell me you're the owner of this great UBOT software that I use? lol Got it from Clickbank and it's great, great support.

I still use SENUKE and excited for the release of X, yes it's worth it if you know how to use it.

Goodluck on your Ubot platforms and let me know if you have some great recommendations for me. I might need one of your tools!

Enzo, nope I don't own ubot. That's another very very creative and smart marketer

But I'm developing my own platform that will allow me to overcome the limitations of ubot. I'll be talking more about it as I get it ready for prime time.

And yeah these Senuke guys are raking it in -- they're doing an easy 200K a month. That's something to shoot for

Chika you can get VAs for $200/mo and if you do it right they'll make you $600, so as long as you have a reliable $500-600 a month I'd go ahead and get started. Very low risk and worth the investment.

    Excellent job Joe.

The thing is that once your belief systems shifts
and you see what is really possible, you start making
it happen because you give yourself permission to
    let it happen.

The keys are massive, immediate, mostly proper
    action, leverage, and momentum.

I consider joint ventures essential but they don't
have to be in the sense that most people think of
them. I actually think of every one of my affiliates,
and even my customers as "joint venture partners"
    working towards a common purpose.

10k a month is very possible for most of us. We
have so many absolutely brilliant people here

That it the key, believing it IS possible...no, I am not there yet. But funny thing is, I have turned the corner in the way I think....yes, there's no doubt if I apply myself, it will happen.

I was going after the quick money, and still do to some extent. But, I have just started to seriously pursue building a list.

WOW. I'm honored (not joking). A congrats from THE Willie Crawford. Man you made my day!

Your point about considering your affiliates as partners in the enterprise is central. It changes your entire approach to affiliates, valuing them as someone whom you need to support. I'll remember that well once I set up my own affiliate programs.

Thanks Willie, and you should know that I am trying to emulate your giving-to-the-max approach of over delivering and giving before asking.

I'm still buzzed that you commented.

      let it happen.

The keys are massive, immediate, mostly proper

I consider joint ventures essential but they don't
have to be in the sense that most people think of
them. I actually think of every one of my affiliates,
and even my customers as "joint venture partners"
      working towards a common purpose.

10k a month is very possible for most of us. We
have so many absolutely brilliant people here

Everyone can teach someone something -- I never did any squidoo lenses, and I'm impressed that you had success with them. It seems quite difficult nowadays (speaking from no experience of course, since I haven't tried).

How do you intend to get to 10K/mo consistent? Do you plan to get there through affiliate marketing, flipping websites, or any of the many other possible avenues? My own experience is that once I started making my own products, things started to click for me. I never had outstanding success with selling other people's products (affiliate marketing). By the way, 10K a month while still in high school is impressive. I want to keep track of how you're doing, since that will be quite a story to watch

Notice that my goals are also to be at 10K/mo minimum consistent by the end of the year. Many would say that's conservative, even somewhat un-ambitious, but I like to set realistic goals or even ones that I can beat -- I hate failure, LOL. Now I know that everyone tells you that if you didn't fail you didn't succeed yet, but I just hate the pain

Is this a Joe I know from Texas that used to work in a different end of the interwebs?

Sorry, different Joe. I only once visited Texas, Dallas, and I've never lived there. I live in California.
