Has anyone taken a site new site to fruition and what are the beginning steps?

I have created a new site that has been a year in development. I am a programmer, and not a marketer. What should be my first steps to getting started and how do I start getting traffic. Currently I am getting about 5000 hits a month, but not much activity on new members? Any Warriors want to take on a marketing project? The site is Made-In.US.com

Contact big spending advertisers and charge them to advertise banners on your site.

yeah that aint a lot.

You need to write press releases to get the word out. But make sure you purchase a very good press release package that will get you maximum exposure.
Advertise on facebook.
Use other social networks as well.
Be smart and joint venture with other directories as well.

Where do I find out how to submit press releases? What are the good ones that you refer to?

PR.com and PrWeb.com

I don't advise going for the free distribution services. They don't get you nearly as much exposure as a big media package. Just make sure you get a professional to write a good one for you. The traffic to your site will be immense if you choose a full distribution package.
