How To Make PDF navigation [side pages panel]

Hi,

I have an ebook in pdf form. I'd like to have a list of the pages run down the side of the screen in addition to the table of contents. How do I get the clickable pages to display on the side.

I'd like the reader to able to see the side bar and quickly click on whatever page they'd like to read instead of having to go back up to the top for the table of contents.

So essentially how do I turn on the show side bar function in a pdf?

Thanks a million.

Sorry I'm using Open Office. org to create the pdf.

Hmm... When you open up your converted PDF book using Adobe Reader, you can see the list of pages running down at the left hand side of the screen...

If it doesn't appear, there's a button that looks like 2 pages of documents (and when you mouse over it, it says "Pages: Go to specific pages using thumbnail images") that you can click on to see that...

So, there's no need for you to specifically create one...

    Hope this helps!

I think THIS is what you are looking for ->

This is really simple to do! You will have change one setting in Open Office and then to re-output your PDF file.

With Open Office re-open your doc and then go to "File" -> "Export as PDF..." you will see this dialog box ->

Next, click on the "Initial View" tab, select "Thumbnails & page" as shown and then "Export"

    Done.

So, anyone opening your PDF will automatically have this nice professional view once it opens!

      Don - you're welcome.

It's also nice that Open Office "remembers" these settings so you don't have to keep going back and toggle them over and over again!

Another good one to change in the same dialog box is "Continuous" under "Page Layout". Quite a few people prefer this because it makes it much easier to (Scroll) navigate through your ebook.
