No More Hosting Amazon Reviews On Your Website - Explained

If you use amazon reviews on your website this is super important to you.

Amazon said today that they will no longer return amazon reviews content for you to use on your websites.

Instead they will return a link that is for an iframe that will display the reviews on your site inside the iframe.

So YES you can still show the reviews on your site,

HOWEVER,

They will be inside an iframe and google won't index any of the content. ;(

Here's from there developer guide:

The reviews response group returns the URL to an iframe that contains customer reviews. You can embed the iframe on any web page to display the response content.
PLUS, you can't even archive the iframe, you need to get the reviews again every 24 hours

Each iframe URL is valid for 24 hours. If the iframe URL expires, you will receive a 403 Forbidden error code.
Basically amazon doesn't want their affiliates getting google traffic for reviews, they want the traffic, my opinion.

What to do? Have whatever script owner that makes your amazon reviews update their script.

Here's the original email:

On November 8, 2010 the Reviews response group of the Product Advertising API will no longer return customer reviews content and instead will return a link to customer reviews content hosted on Amazon.com. You will be able to display customer reviews on your site using that link. Please refer to the Product Advertising API Developer guide found here for more details. The Reviews response group will continue to function as before until November 8 and the new link to customer reviews is available to you now through the Product Advertising API as well.

I guess that points to Amazon's commitment to reduce search engine spam... LOL

Besides, Amazon has invested a lot of money and resources to get those reviews...

They are willing to let you use them to sell the products they provide to your customers, but they are right to protect their intellectual property from those who could use it to sell products sold through other sellers...

Reviews CAN change, or be removed, also. THIS gives amazon more control over what THEY are liable for! So there IS a VALID, NON PROFIT DRIVEN, motive for this!
