Is there a restricted access video sharing site?

Hey folks,

I'm just wondering if any of you know about a service like YouTube, where you can upload your video, and restrict access to it (probably by paying $xx/month).

Essentially, instead of having to stream your video from Amazon s3 or your own hosting and potentially crashing or costing a fortune, you pay a fixed fee for guaranteed uptime for your videos, where you're permitted to restrict access to viewers, allowing only (for example) your members to view it.

Any insight?

Have you looked at viddler.com? I have not used their service but it looks like it would accommodate your needs.

    Jonathan,

I just signed up to Viddler to check it out after your advice, and it appears to have a 'private' option you can select for the videos you upload.

I haven't checked out precisely how this works, but it looks like you've nailed it.

    Thanks dude!

P.S. Adelaide is a cool place. Out of all the aussie cities, I liked it the most. All the benefits of a city, without the usual chaos.

    Check out http://www.youpublish.com.

They will collect the money and pay you half.

Not sure if you can set up a monthly payment option.

Glad to hear that it meets your needs.

It's not bad here but we're moving to Western Australia next year.

Wow, didn't know about a site like this. I just figured, unless you host it, you couldn't keep it private. Thanks for this information!

You can have private vids at youtube. I remember right, it's limited to 25 people or so.

My initial reason for asking was, I was thinking about if I ever created a product and I wanted to include video, then if you don't think it through properly, you could end up eating into profits with bandwidth costs, or crashing your server, etc.

However, why do some of the products we buy with videos insist on having them streamed?

Wouldn't it make more sense to convert them to flash, zip them, and then make them available to download?

What would be the negatives of this?

Many marketers prefer to use streaming content to prevent their products from being re-sold. Some people, whether from inexperience or deliberate intent, often violate licensing restrictions on the products they purchase and resell them.

Although savvy users know how to get past the security measures, by restricting access to the videos, you are making it more difficult for the majority of your customers to obtain copies of your products to resell.

You may want to take a look at Vimeo.com. They have a couple of paid options that allow you to restrict views of your videos. Here's a description I found on their Vimeo Plus sales page--
"choose exactly where your videos can be embedded on the web. There are no limits to the number of websites you can choose and you’ll always have complete control of your video outside of Vimeo. You even have the option to completely hide your video on Vimeo.com so it will only show up on the sites you want it to, and nowhere else."
Costs for Vimeo Plus is about $60 bucks for an annual subscription, they also offer a monthly subscription that cost about 10 bucks per month.

      Hope this helps.
