Best way to find prospective advertisers

INTERNET MARKETING

I have a new site that features the Optimal Retirement Planner. Based on my keyword research, I believe it will get good organic traffic, and return visits. I have just begun serious SEO on it. I hope to sell advertising space directly to someone in the financial services industry, perhaps for a directory of financial services.

I am seeking your feedback on two questions:

What is the best way to look for prospective advertisers for this site?
How much traffic should I have before I approach these prospects?

I'd say you're best off using something like Feedburner to get
email subscribers to your blog, blogging a lot, and then you'll
have a targeted list and you can tell advertisers how many
rss and email subscribers you have.

Those numbers will be a lot more relevant to selling your
advertising because those are real targeted people who
want your information.

In the meantime, until you have that data and proof, you
can monetize the blog yourself with affiliate promos.
