Affiliates - Top 3-5 Things You Look For When Promoting a (Profitable) Offer

Product owners often spend time thinking about CUSTOMERs want but I haven't read alot about asking what their AFFILIATES want.

So I'm curious, what are the top 3-5 things you look at when deciding on promoting a product.

Here's a list of some things that come to my mind, would be curious

-the payout - (how much it is, if it's recurring or what)

-HOW SOON I'm paid (prefer instant payment like payspree, rapbank followed by every 2 week places like clickbank, etc)

-the sales letter (what do you specifically look at in the sales letter?)

-promotional tools (creatives, list of keywords, solo ads, ppc ads, etc)

Your thoughts?

The two most important criteria of all for all affiliates should be:

    1) Quality of the product/offer
    2) Quality of character of the vendor (Are they honest and respectable?)

Too bad most affiliates don't seem to care about this stuff :/

CurtisN nails it. Those are the most important by far.

I don't care how often I get paid. It all evens out in the long run.

To me the most important thing about the sales letter is that it doesn't interfere with my reading. Popover squeeze forms are an instant turn off. Having to click more than once to close a page irritates me and will certainly irritate my referrals.

Videos are good but only if I am given control over pausing, skipping, etc. I want to see the product in action. I need to see features, not your imaginary benefits. I don't care about what kind of car you can afford to rent long enough to take a picture of it.

Good promotional tools are an incentive but not a deciding factor. I can write, I can make a banner or button. I want to know your conversion rate, your product and its value and whether you are a trustworthy person/business.

Honesty and value is all there is. Of course, you need to let me know that you and your product exist and that I can help you get that product to others.

Interesting insights but you've said "I" alot of times. I - we - need to focus on what the average consumer wants. I personally hate alot of the flash esp. in the IM space but capitalism is about people voting with their dollars and your job as a owner is to give people what they want.....

        Just a thought.....

Also for the most part benefits generate emotional reactions and features don't....that's been pretty tried and tested....except perhaps in the software market where people are pretty left brained and analytical....

Hoe do you judge the quality of the product - do you buy every product that you promote? Just curious....
