Blogger and wordpress are the best ones to focus your energy on.

The best advice that I can give is:

    1) Buy aged domain names from GoDaddy auctions
    2) Then link them to your blog

Going strictly with the free blog without a domain name will hurt you in the long run.

Good list, but the free Wordpress doesn't allow you to use affiliate links. In fact, it doesn't allow much at all... I much prefer Blogger as a free website host (not to pimp my sig or anything, lol).

And to me, Livejournal is a little too community-oriented to be used as a professional blog. I've got one, and I wouldn't dream of using it for IM. :p

I use blogger. It has some nice little widgets, especially the Adsense widget. Makes it easy to put adsense on your page.

You can have a free 14 Day trial at the brilliant Build a Website - Create a Blog - Squarespace blog platform. Without even giving them your credit card details. [Non affiliate link BTW]

I've been with them for 5 years. Google LOVES them. They use Peer1 servers. Very, very dependable and powerful. Best part is you don't need to be a propeller-head to use it.

I've moved on to Wordpress now but I still have a couple of blogs on Squarespace. One of them got 506k Unique Visitors in May last year. Without a hiccup. The second link in my sig. is on a squarespace blog. (that's not the one that got all the traffic though)

    I use WP.
I always say that I'm going to use Blogger for my next project, but in the heat of battle I go for what I know.

Wordpress is not useful for Afilliate links purpose as it does not allow such links, so it can be used for only backlinking purpose. Blogger is favorable for affiliate links purpose.

    Thanks
