Hi,

Does anyone use HostGator analytics to track visits for their site(s)?

I just wanted to know how accurate it is, currently my hostgator analytics is showing I have visitors/views but google analytics is showing I have absolutely no visitors/views.

Thanks,
Matt

Hmmm that is interesting I have never used Hostgator analytics but was thinking of giving it a spin.

Have you spoken to the support team at analytics to ask why that might possibly be happening?

Have you tried comparing it to a different counter besides those two? I use Statcounter and have had great success with it.

this is true! my HG account shows hundreds of visitors while google shows a handful. If you ever get a true answer please advise. For example one site was getting over hundred unique vistors a day while google said about 15? Thats a HUUGGEEE diffrence!

I'll compare visitor results for next week and I'll report them back here.

Many will tell you google analytics is the bomb at tracking traffic details, but this is so wrong.

Google analytics is very slow at tracking traffic, if a visitor visits within a few seconds of each other the analytics sometimes only count one visit, also if a user has javascript disabled which nowadays is alot of browsers, we ourselves have this disabled, google analytics cannot track javascript disabled visitors.

There are a few better trackers out there even paid ones, we use getclicky.com (no way associated with them) never had a problem, it's a shame everyone has been brainwashed to think google analytics is the savior of tracking traffic, which it is not.

I guess that's why only 54% of the top 100,000 sites on the net use Google Analytics. source: Google Analytics Usage Statistics

My visitor logs from my sites show an average of 3% of my visitors have js turned off. This includes bots.

hahahahaha!Sorry i am laughing but a yesterday i had the same question.I even communicated with Hostgator live support. In Google i had 7 visits in my site and according to Hostgator the visitors were 1361!

The support guy told me some excuses that both systems don't get updated at the same time and that they work differently!

Sorry but this thing is to be laughed at!

Your laughing BUT who are you to belive? Google the KING @ 7 or Hostgator at 1331? This is the real picture.

Also a person told me to that with HostGator they count refreshes as well.

I tend to believe Google @ 7 visits!

I should have thought that the Hostgator information would be the most accurate, as it is obtained directly from their own servers.

The only reason that I can think of to make a web host inflate such figures, would be to push a client into purchasing additional bandwidth. I somehow can't imagine Hostgator stooping to that.

I agree though that it would be nice to get to the bottom of the issue raised in the thread.

I'll compare visitor results for next week and I'll report them back here.
Rough Outline Writing, we await your results with bated breath!

        Just my thoughts.

        Regards,
        Jeff.

I think the numbers could depend on whether or not Hostgator is counting the bots or somehow adds different page views as a visit -- it would be helpful to find out how they count. The bots can be a lot of visits. It would also be helpful to know whether Hostgator also includes you working on your site as a visitor as well.

HG analytics show bots and crawlers.

The yahoo crawler is particularly aggressive as is one from Russia (I think)
that crawls blogs like crazy. These can account for a lot of false traffic.

Many business owners (particularly "offline" type businesses) are sorely
deluded about the amount of real traffic they get. They've been looking
at these stats programs and think their websites aren't converting well,
but in reality they just are getting a fraction of the visitors they think
            they are.

The HG stats have value though. You can learn a lot by looking at the
raw data you get from your host.

There is a report in the HG data the shows bots vs real visits......so you can still see (at least on my site) the real visitors comapred to bots. If I knew how to take a screenshot I would post one of my stats to disect.
