Ask users to write reviews?

Hi guys

I want more visitors to my site (daaah) and thought I might try to convince people on my free newsletter to get a 50% discount on my product (ebook) in return for a promise to write a review and post on the internet afterwards.

In practice I'd just send it to my list and ask them to reply with a message on where they would write the review (which forum/article base/whatever...). Then I'd supply them with a 50% off link.

I know they can just abuse the offer and not write the review but thats just the same as abusing the 8 weeks moneyback guarantee. I'm not worrying about it as it still won't have cost me a dime.

Any of you tried something similar and willing to share your experiences? Or any hints/ideas for doing it?

I might do the same with my buyers list except I have no great value to offer them.

Thanks in advance
-Larry

I would hand pick some individuals give them your book and tell them they are only allowed to do a review if they are TOTALLY honest

That way you rack up credibility and can get some sweet feedback

    Thanks for your answer John.
I don't really know a lot of people in the group that is currently buying and thus my best link is the people in my free newsletter. I could ask only individuals but I think sending a common mail to all of them will just result in more reviews being done. It being 50% off instead of free is just for practical reasons since then I can send them through one of my already existing sales pages and thus I don't have to do everything manually (sending them a copy, ptting them on my paid newsletter). However I do send out free reviewversions to some of my close friends that are interested and to people inquiring through my email.

Thanks again for your advice and will definately include the TOTALLY honest line in my emails. Actually honesty has been a big factor all along. I don't want fake reviews as I very much want to have a strong relation with customers.
