A question for those who run paid membership blogs

I was thinking about using Memberwing to provide featured content for paid members on one of my more popular blogs.

I was wondering, for those of you who already do this, how much do you charge monthly, and how often do you post content to these blogs? Just trying to get a general idea. Thanks in advance.

What niche is your blog in. I am asking since that affect price and how much content people expect.

Membership sites vary in their pricing, but the sites that are the most successful generating revenue around the $500k mark charge less than $10, but it depends on your niche.

Running a membership site successfully should be treated like a full time job around 2-3 articles a day with video production and other valuable content, including answering forum posts.

If your free site / blog is popular right now and you charge people for access you'll get a low conversion rate, so research first.

The 2-3 post thing was about what I had imagined. Right now it's a toss up between creating a membership site and going the product creation route. I just know that the content I'm planning on providing within the next month or two I don't want to give away for free.

Creating a membership content site is a product in itself.
Create the site with at least 60 - 100 articles that offers value, then produce a product and sell it on the site, in addition to creating specific sales sites and capture pages for your niche.

Produce video around your content and upload some of it to You Tube to attract visitors to your site.

I run one of the most highly trafficked video training sites in the world. We don't charge a thing. That said, the new site with new content and over 200 training videos will have a PRO SERIES section for $99/mo. They can cancel at any time. So if they can grasp it all in within 30 days, they get a $99 education. If it takes them longer? etc. etc.

As far as members, in 2nd quarter 2010 we had 12,000 new free registrations. Competing with Lynda.com and other large sites however it's the niche content that drives the traffic.

Provide content that simply can't be had elsewhere and you'll kill it over time.

I agree with most of the above posters.

I would advise you to keep it FREE and promote extra additional stuff (such as ebooks or Private Members Area) at a price to your FREE members. By all means KEEP all of your members and that means keep posting for FREE.

Why? Because you can keep all of them and additionally charge those who will pay you. At regular intervals introduce a new ebook or a report to your FREE members and charge as little as possible.

I was doing something similar two years ago and i used to charge $9/mo. for the Private Members Area and somewhere around $17 per report and i had a very good conversion.

But again it all depends on what you are offering. If you are into IM and you got great content to offer the above prices will be a piece of cake for you while maintaining a high conversion rate.

I highly recommend you get a program on running continuity sites before you invest a lot of time into charging. There are a lot of factors you should consider regarding pricing models and what you should charge for it.

    Hi,

It would depend on the niche and most of all the perceived value of what you are offering.

A good price to test is $9.95 per month for just blog posts you can upsell or have a higher membership price by giving away reports, ebooks or special interview for lets say $14.95
