Setting up Wireless WPA Security

I'm having a problem setting up WPA/Personal encryption on my wife's laptop.

I'm using WPA1 Personal/TKIP.

The problem is that when I enter the key information into my wife's laptop (running vista) it will recognize the key only once. After that it will not recognize the key even if its manually re-entered.

I'm thinking that I'm missing a small but critical part of the process.

Any help would be appreciated.

On some wireless routers (or wireless access points) there is a feature to increase throughput. Some call it turbo mode or something similar. Vista might behave if that type of feature is turned off. Try connecting again when turbo is disabled.

Another idea, if you are joining Vista to an infrastructure network the security key/passphrase must be the same as what is set at the access point to be able to connect.

Another idea, you might need a Vista patch from Microsoft if you are trying to use AES and WPA (might be a non-issue since you mentioned TKIP). See this knowledge base article,

You cannot connect to a wireless network on a Windows Vista-based computer

I know this is frustrating. But when you figure it out, can you please post your progress and results, so others can benefit from your experience? Thanks.
