Your domain name , is it safe ?

I am new in this Internet marketing world .
In here i have seen a lot of warriors suggesting Godaddy.com for domain registration and also have seen a lot of warriors saying that they have purchased their domain names from Godaddy.com
My question is , Is it safe to purchase domain name from godaddy ?
Will i get the full controll of my domain name ?
Is there anyway Godaddy can take the control of my domain name from me ?
or can they ban my domain name ?

Should i purchase domain from Godaddy or is there any other more reliable place to purchase domain ?

    Hi

When you purchase from GoDaddy.com there are options to protect your domain from the public etc. You will gain access to a dashboard where you have control over the domain. This will include domain forwarding etc.

Don't use GD for searching for domain names!
If you don't buy them immediately, they will grab it and next day they will try to sell it to you for a way higher price.

There are more people that say do not use GD than people saying you should.

What do you mean by "safe"? - Normally, what you purchased, is yours.

A lot of warriors use namecheap.com as registrar.

    I use namecheap.

Personally, I have never had a problem with godaddy taking a name etc. But I have eaten lunch with folks who have. Good people, successful people. Who don't make a dime from me using namecheap.

I like namecheap the best. Godaddy will take your domain if it is reported for spam. Not sure what the other registrars do if it is reported for spamming. I've never had a problem with Godaddy or Namecheap, but I like the Namecheap interface better.

That's what I was asking for , is there anyway they can take my domain from me ...
Because I don't want to lose the domain name I am gonna work hard for ...
I want my domain name under my full control... If there's anything illegal in my site google can ban my site from their database or I might get legal notice from court or proper authority , but I don't want the register company to take the control of my domain. They can force me transfer my domain from them , but I don't want my registration get cancelled .
Is it clear , what I am asking ?

Godaddy offers reliability. The only thing you have to get over is the constant barrage of upsells. Once you develop Godaddy upsell blindness, they are great!

Here are the Domain Name Registrars I currently use:
        • Godaddy
        • Namecheap
        • Netfirms
        • Co.cc
        • 1and1

This is a true statement! NEVER use the GD search feature unless you are going to purchase the domain name right then and there and at that precise moment! I'm speaking from experience dating back a few years but I doubt they have changed that stratagem.

The answer to your question is, "NO!" Not legally!

Once you become the registered owner of a domain name and pay your renewal fees on time, no registrar can legally usurp your domain name under any circumstances.

Try Bulk Check to check. You can bulk check a number of extensions here without risk.
Something no one has mentioned that could lose you a domain is if you infringe a trademark ie like buying cokecola.com. So if you are not thinking of registering a generic domain then it may be worth speaking to a trademark lawyer before you purchase. Of course this adds to your costs but may save you losing a domain later to the trademark holder.

Honestly, if I'm going to purchase the domain names right then and there, I would use GD, Namecheap, Netfirms or whoever has got the best coupons or deals going at that moment.

Call it being cynical, on edge or whatever, but anytime I'm searching for domains, I'm buying them right then and there! Not tomorrow! Not next week! Not next month! And not in an hour... I'm sealing the deal right then and there at that moment! I cannot stress that enough.

As far as checking domain names for availability, I normally just type the domain name into a browser. BUT, if you have a batch of domain names that could become time consuming.

I've been using Godaddy since 2004. I've registered over 800 domain names and never had a single one taken away from me.

I did have one disabled by GoDaddy due to spam complaints, but I didn't lose it. Once I figured out the problem, I simply had to transfer it to another registrar. You'd get the same type of response from a responsible web host.

And, I have never come across anybody that has been a victim of Godaddy "front running" their domain name. (Registering domains based on what you searched.)

In fact, if you search Google, the only documented cases are those against Network Solutions, which was served with a class action lawsuit in 2008.

You know, it's pretty sick. I was always amazed about the number of people that didn't trust GoDaddy simply because they thought it was "too cheap." But for those of us who know how much ICANN gets, then we know that Go Daddy simply has a good "walmart" approach to domain names and that it's people like Network Solutions that still charge $34.99+ who are the ones not working in the interest of consumers.

    I also found this.

By the way.. I don't work for GoDaddy. I do resell through their sister company "Wild West Domains" and have for many years... but, typically just for my web marketing clients.

Been using Godaddy for 8 years now, around 200 domains currently, without a single problem.

Re the complaints you've read, it's important to understand that GoDaddy has a market share of 30% of all domain registrations. The next nine most popular registrars have around the next 30% between them and some of those are Godaddy resellers themselves like Wild West Domains.

So, it's not surprising that one might see more complaints about Godaddy than anyone else. Likewise, you'll also find more complaints on the 'net about Expedia than Lucy's easywaytravel.com of 123 High Street, Bumtown, Alabama

Make sure you use yr real information when you're registering the domain...

And use it for legitimate purposes.

I don't see how anyone can take the domain away from you if you stick by these rules...

While I use GD for my domain and am very pleased with it, I DID use GD search for a potential new enterprise. I registered the new domain a day or two later and got the hosting from them as well. A few days after I got the domain name, I got a SE hit from someone searching for "MYDOMAIN.COM" as the search term.

    Coincidence?

I use Godaddy - always have - I do a quick search for a Godaddy promo code so I always get a discount on my domain names and have never had any problems with them ever. I guess you stick to what you know - I have well developed blindness to the upsell offers but what I like too is that I can pay by cc or paypal and I don't have to have the domain on an auto renew. And like some other responses here I love the cheap dot info sites that i use for sites I don't plan on selling.

Didn't know that about the search option though - but like others I do a search because I want the domain name then and there so that might be why I have never noticed it.

    Best of luck
    Lisa
