My open rate is above 100%?

I actually asked this question on the GetResponse forums but it's been a week with no reply. Don't think anyone frequents those forums.

My open rate for a few of my mailings in a number of campaigns is above 100%... Now, I do write quality emails but 100% is obviously too much. Could my subscribers be forwarding my mails to their friends? Would that increase my open rate to above 100% or it is probably a bug?

Your guesses are welcome before I contact a real person at GetResponse.

It could also mean that you have had multiple opens from several people. Unique opens would be able to show you really how many folks opened your email.

I'm not sure if GetResponse measure open rates in a
    similar way to AWeber.

I know that AWeber register an open anytime someone
opens the e-mail and the tracking pixel is activated.
The main open rate figure in AWeber can be over 100%
in some cases because it doesn't use unique opens. So
multiple views by the same subscriber inflate the open
    rate percentage figure.

I think there's a way to find the unique opens within
AWeber, but it's just a bit buried in their system. The
open rates on the main page are for any opens.

In contrast, Infusionsoft, only include unique opens in
their open rate statistics so this gives a more accurate
    figure.

I'm guessing that either people are passing around your
messages a lot, you have a lot of e-mail exchanges with
your subscribers and/or a significant number of subscribers
are viewing their e-mails multiple times.

    Dedicated to your success,

      Could be...

... people forwarding your emails to others.

... people reading your emails multiple times.

... people using preview panes and the arrow keys on their keyboard to go through emails in their inbox (when they stop on your email, even if only briefly, they'll record an "open" if they have images enabled).

... people replying to you and quoting/including your emails in their replies (you opening their reply would count as an open since, if they included your original email in their reply, the tracking pixel would be present).

Chances are, it's at least 2 of these things.

It IS a bug, because it is impossible to do it correctly. Cookies may NOT be supported, so methods used to restrict repeat counts are unreliable. If it were forwarded, they WOULD add to the percentage. Outside of using a graphic, I know of no way to determine the open rate. Basically, the graphic is pulled only when read, and a program counts the times the graphic is shown. opening the email more than once could also generate multiple hits.
