Google Instant Search = No Value Added

Has it made one iota of difference it the way you use Google?

Do you actually take the time to scan the results as they update while you type and then stop typing once it's figured out what you're searching for? Anybody?

No.

It takes LONGER to search if you try scanning the results as you type.

Google Instant is a huge red herring that won't change how people search one bit.

I am not a fan of it. Thankfully, it has an off button.

Yep, good ol' off buttons. People were/are panicking about the whole instant search thing. "IT'S THE END OF SEO!" is what they cry. Thing is people still want relevant results so they will keep looking for it until they find it. And you can also turn it off.

I have a sloppy signature, so I print instead.

It's so annoying I want to scream. For me, the cursor just jumps all over and the text jumps around more than a nervous puppy. Wow, totally distracting and useless. Please go away!

I agree, it is more annoying for me than anything. I hate seeing the text jump around as I type.

I hear you Tom. Maybe I'm getting old, but I just fail to see any advantage from it.

I can't touch type anyway. I watch my little fingers peck away the keyword then look up once they hit Return.....

    What a useless feature.....

I didn't even know that it existed until I started getting emails from SEO people trying to calm people down. Mine isn't even turned on.

to me honestly its "ok" in some instances as im typing i guess its ok to have what im looking for there "instantly" per say but i think it just sends up being something else to make us a little more lazier lol

Sometimes I use it, sometimes i don't use it. Especially for keyword research I really use it because there is a awesome method to use it properly Check my sig if you want more

I think we have to handle it because Google won't remove it due to the huge amount of users who really like it.

Sure it gives value. I'm an extremely fast reader and can ingest large amounts of data quickly before making a decision..blame my legal education lol. And others I've talked to as well like it too.

Like others have said, you can turn it off or on at a whim. And none of my site portfolio's have been affected traffic wise (and in fact, some have gone UP in traffic due to tail end keyword usage).

Yep, at the expense of PPC advertiser's inflated costs too. It took them months to develop that technology and they're apparently extremely excited and proud of it (I'm getting this from a tech blog post I recall reading, but can't remember the source sorry)

The problem is, this tool is designed for people who can't type or spell, or just can't be bothered. I am pretty certain that anyone who shares your ability to scan and consume masses of search results which constantly change is not going to be the same person who can't spell or type (or can't be bothered)

      See the disconnect here?

I'm not a major fan of it either. I think that the general concept could be cool, however at the moment it just seems to have really poor usability (i.e. it's likely that it will confuse/annoy 'regular' users).
