Newbie with I.O seeks advice !!

Hi all
My name is Patrick and I'm excited to join this amazing forum. However, as the title indicates, I am suffering from major I.O (information overload).

I have a few questions and your guidance would be highly appreciated.

Based on my research thus far, it appears the ways to make income as an IMer include: affiliate marketing, blogging, and creating websites. Can anyone please expand this list so I can narrow it down to which one I would like to be involved with? For example I might find affiliate marketing easier than creating websites, but I would like to know all the other alternatives so I can make my choice.

Secondly, based upon your experiences, which of these methods would a newbie find the easiest to duplicate ? At some point, it is probably in my best interest to learn a bit about all the techniques involved, but for now I would like to focus on one to generate some income as i learn the others.

In conclusion, I am so excited to be here. IM to me seems like a big puzzle that needs to be gradually pieced together. Every bit of advice and suggestion that y'all offer is highly appreciated.

Thanks and have a great day !! :p

    Welcome to the forum Patrick!

The best advice I can give you is this:

Choose ONE solid method and focus on it exclusively...

When I say "solid method" I mean a method that has a track record of success with other IMers. Examples of this would include the methods you've already mentioned.

This is what I did when I first started out. I chose article marketing and ignored everything else until I was proficient at it and making a profit.

Because I was so focused on one method, I was able to start making money very quickly - within my first week or so. I was like a sponge, absorbing every aspect of article marketing I could -asking questions, buying courses, and most importantly... TAKING ACTION!

It's very easy to get overwhelmed by information overload here. It takes discipline and laser focus to stay with one method when there are so many "shiny new" methods popping up all around you. But if you can bring yourself to stay focused, you WILL succeed.

From time to time I'll coach family members and friends using this approach and their success rate is VERY high (as long as they are willing to do the work).

    To your success,
    Matt

      Time Tested Advice! Thanks!

I have helped friends and family and those that are willing to put in the work and build on a solid foundation are successful.

Those that jump on the NBT (next best thing) are never happy and never build a solid business that will sustain the families for a long long time.

      Blessings

    Hiya Patrick,

There are many ways to make money online, from creating your own products, Adsense, affiliate marketing, article marketing, cpa, site flipping, etc...

Take a look in the WSO forum. I'm not telling you to purchase anything, just look at what is being offered.

This is a good indication of what is "hot" at the moment.

Edit: And what Matt said above. Pick something and stick with it long enough to see results. Don't be a grasshopper going from one thing to the next.

    Patrick,

    Welcome aboard!

Good points made above in the other posts. I would suggest you look at topics you are interested in, and do lots of research before you decide to take the plunge.

Don't start off too quickly, or buy lots of product initially, just get to learn the principle of the business, then begin to apply it as once you do you're in for a fantastic ride.

    Best of luck

    John

Welcome Patrick! I know what you mean about information overload. It is just overwhelming! I agree with everyone who has replied here. You just have to find one thing and stick with it and just learn it and do it.
It all takes time, presistence, some learning of web skills and then just going and implementing what you've learned.

    Good luck!

I would say don't buy anything. Just read this forum and look for different ideas. There is at least as many things that you can do online as there is offline. I would read for a week or so and then start working on something.

It doesn't really matter what you choose to do. The first time around almost everyone fails. What matters is that you choose something, actually get started on it, and at least give yourself an opportunity to make money.

Most people that try IM are not successful because they never get started. Then another proportion get started but never finish. It is important to have some success and some failure, and then learn from the two. After you have done a couple of different projects you will have a much better idea of what you like to do, what you don't like to do, and what you would like to do to make money.

    Davinciforhire,

Welcome! Do you have technical skills? Can you build websites? You're Davinciforhire so are you artistic? Good with Photoshop/Corel etc.

Selling services is a great way to get your feet wet.

Affiliate marketing is good as you can set it up as a reproducible system. Learn that inside and out and you can build little niche cash cow sites that will pay you for years.

There is no easy was so if someone claims that, run the other way.

Best of luck to you and have fun!

Hi Patrick, and welcome! I think it's easiest for a newbie to get started building simple but well-rounded web sites promoting affiliate products. There's definitely a learning curve, and for some it's steeper than others, but it's a relatively simple concept. It does take a lot of work, but once you understand it and know the steps, it's not hard to duplicate.

Got to agree that it is clear the persistence and hard work are essential, but I would also take some time to find some great content/product/service to promote using IM.

Without something good to build your reputation on you will always be battling up hill and at the beginning you need to get as much positive feedback as possible at the beginning

Welcome to the family. It is so easy to suffer from information overload. When I fiirst started in this market, I purchased every new and "shiny" product. I had absolutely no focus. To succeed, it is imperative to have focus and determination. Find what works for you, learn everything that you can and stick with it. Focus on having tunnel vision until you see results.
