My Dilemma - 2 word .net or 3 word .com

I'm having trouble deciding which domain to go with. I have the 2 word name that I'd prefer but it is already taken in .com but available as .net.

Or I can use a different 3 word domain that is .com

I know .nets are good, my only concern is customers getting to know my domain but accidentally typing in .com at the end when typing it if I get the .net name.

Grrrr, I can't decide.

What would you choose?

I would go with the exact match domain, the .net - will be far easier to rank for the keyword.

I've never had any issue with people putting the wrong extension in for my sites.

That's the one I'm leaning toward as it is the name I prefer and much shorter too. I have other .net domains and I don't have a problem with them. This one is for a site that I could have 'return' customers which is why I'm wondering if it's better to have a .com if they just type in the url.

Like oneplusone said, even I'd go for the exact match even though it's .NET.

Further more I'd also suggest you buy both of them. Make the other one permanently redirect. And if you ever wish to change your mind, at least you will have option.

You can go for both domains as suggested in this thread. But at the end of the day, when it comes to backlinks, you would be well off having a domain name that is easy to remember and easy for others to link to, irrespective of the extension.

As for ranking, the keyword in the domain name is only one of the several hundred factors that influence the final rankings.

Considering this, you could register for the two word domain that is shorter than the three word domain and easier for others to link to and also remember. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, yes I think I might grab the 2 word .net domain. It has more of a 'business name' ring to it too whereas the 3 word domain is more of a phrase or description of the product. For this site I want more of a 'name' domain (that does still include the main keyword) rather than a phrase.

You've all helped in my decision, thank you all very much, some very good points everyone made.
