How do I Ping a webpage?

Hi all,

I know that wordpress automatically pings the search engines when a new post is created. But how do I ping external webpages (on articles and various other directory sites) that I want Google to find?

Thanks

Is Pinging the same thing as submitting an RSS feed? I thought a ping was just a notification that the page existed

I use pingler and pingomatic. What pinging does is help search engine know about your blog and posts.

    How to Ping a Website
If you are having problems resolving your website, you can ping it to see if it is a problem with your server, or if there is a problem somewhere in the internet as the connection travels from your computer's internet access through to the domain in question.
    Here is how to Ping
    1. From the desktop, click start
    2. Select Run
    3. In the Run box, type command
    4. Click OK
    5. The DOS window will pop up. go yourdomainname site and press enter.
    6. You will see some results pass through the screen.
    7. It will tell you if there were any packets lost in the transfer (0% loss is what you want to see).
    8. It will also tell you the average speed, in milliseconds.
    9. To close the DOS window, type exit at the C:\WINDOWS> prompt and press enter.

    Delta223,

Well, pinging is now completely ineffective with Google so the only good you will see will be in Yahoo, Bing and other search engines, however, I am sure they will all start making the same changes as well.

For now, you can use pingler, pingomatic and pingoat but I must admit that I no longer ping any of my web properties.

    Kind Regards,
    Sid Poudyal
