Does anyone know how I can throw up a free site to promote my writing?

Hi guys,

I want to build a site to promote writing services, but right now I need to do everything for free. Can someone help me figure out how to do this while still looking professional?

Yeah, as mentioned those platforms are great for setting up free sites but you definitely want to search for free templates and choose one that you think looks really professional. Simply searching for "free WordPress templates" or whatever platform you decide to go with should do the trick.

I'd stick with WordPress as it'll be easy to transfer over your site once you get paid hosting and a domain.

      Best of luck,

You can't promote things on a free Wordpress blog, so I'd go with Blogger or Weebly.

Your own web hosting plan can be had for just $5 per month, so get yourself one as soon as you can afford it.

    I like http://sites.google.com

I've even seen successful business ventures being run from there. They have contact forms and everything you need, plus plenty of templates.

How about trying to barter a little?

    • Offer to write x articles for someone who purchases you a domain name.
    • Offer to write x articles for someone who pays for your hosting for a month (or 3 months or whatever)
    • Offer to write x articles for someone who does the graphics for your site
    • etc.
Then set most or all of the profits that your site/services generate aside for advertising and other expenses (hosting, autoresponder, etc.) until you're up and going strong.

Put your barter offer in your sig file. Have interested parties PM you. Then you can provide writing samples via email or PM. Or you could send them to a temporary free site (Weebly, etc.) where you have some samples.

If you have a credit card, you can get a "Hatchling Plan" from hostgator for $4.95 per month. And there is a thread here in the Main Forum that discloses as coupon code for Go Daddy that allows you to get a .com domain name for $0.99.

        Here's the link. http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...upon-code.html

Install WordPress and find a theme you like, and you can have your site up and going in a couple of hour for around $6. You can also get an AWeber account for $1 for your first month (and $19/month after that).

So for around $7 you can have a site set up on your own domain.

After the first month it'll cost you $23.95 per month (Hosting & AWeber).

Even if you decide to shut it down after a month and it takes you a year to pay off that $7 on your credit card @ 24% interest, you're out less than $10.

Are you really in a position that you don't have a credit card or can't afford $10 over the course of a year?

No. You need good SEO for good traffic.

You may want a .com for "professional-looking appearance", but that's a different matter.

You can have a Wordpress blog free of charge, and hosted free of charge, just by using the free hosting at Free Hosting, Paid Hosting, Reseller Services & VPS Servers : Byet Internet

It's good, reliable, well-established, and has no advertising or button at the end of every page saying "Get your free site from Weebly" or anything like that. It's indistinguishable from paid hosting. Some marketers have been using it successfully for years.

awesome now...can someone give me just a few hints for the SEO to get the traffic. today I went search for a good keyword domain name like "writing sevices" but the competition for that term was superrr hiiigh. However I mean it's the most direct way of saying what I'm offering. If I put my name up for the domain name...well no one will search for that.

Oh and sorry but can any recommend a free professional looking wordpress template at all? sorry to bug you guys

I will be offering articles, ebooks, and I want to write for corporate websites as well, such as law or real estate websites. Unfortunately, I don't know copy writing.

YES, BUT, you *missed* the gold in his response.

Maybe the sig thing didn't work. You just need to find a different vehicle.

Scan the threads for people looking for article writers - they are always around... use the search feature, you'll find plenty.

        Check here:
        http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...jobs-here.html

If you can scrape up the funds, open a wso, a classified or a warriors for hire post.

Change your sig file to say you'll give x free articles to the first x people that ask. You don't need a web site for that.

Once you've done the free ones, your clients will be happy (right?) then offer them a blow-out deal to have you write more for them.

Even if it's just one article, you remove the risk to them.

As Lance says, you can even barter our services for another service - if someone has a reseller account, you could write articles for them and they could give you hosting.

        Be creative.

Here are three options you might want to consider. I haven't any of them, but know of one local business who has a nice site with webs.com. You need to look into them closely yourself before deciding to use them.

    Get Shifter!

Webs - Make a free website, get free hosting

Wikidot - Free and Pro Wiki Hosting

Another option for a free mobile site is http://mobisitegalore.com

I never use wordpress.com any more because they are over aggressive in just closing any site that even suggests it might be there for any commercial reason. I just checked some WP.com sites that only had links to a Squidoo lens in a not IM niche and they have been closed. Wordpress Com sucks and act like stuck up leftists.

Blogger is good and you can export them and import them to a self hosted wordpress blog later.

I have had good results building niche blogs on blog.com - it is much like wordpress.com

Squidoo lenses are good for links and you will get traffic from other lenses.

    Wordpress.com is free and also
    Blogger.com is free as well.
For under $10 you can even add a domain name and you are in business.
Article submissions are free as well.

    Take care mate.

That's up to you, a buy now button is good, but the only problem I find is as a writer sometimes you get quite busy and don't have the time to take on new clients and with a buy now button you can keep on getting orders even when you are busy.

The 'unique articles' link in my sig is my page for writing unique's. I just have my prices listed and a contact form and then if I have time to take on new work I can contact the client back and make arrangements.

I would suggest to have at least one sample on your site. If someone new visits your site it is good for them to see a sample of your work before committing to hiring you for the job.

    Site looks great Kea.

I just wanted to come in here to say that I made a deal with Kea to pay for a months hosting and gave her a coupon to get the first month at 1c, so 2 months hosting is taken care of - in exchange for one article.

I received the article this afternoon and I can honestly say this is the BEST article I have EVER received from outsourcing - 100% perfect, they don't get much better than that!
