Default Product Owners, How Effective Are Opt Ins On Your Sales Page?

Hi guys, yet another compelling question from me!
I haven't seen any threads on it but I think it's quite an overlooked subject...

It seems that a lot of merchants have an opt in form on their sales page wether it be a pop over or embeded in the content, it often offers stuff like a free course..

I'm considering implementing one on my sales page with the offer of a preview of the ebook and was wondering how effective it was and if any warrior is kind enough to share his stats.
For example, how many visitors buy on their first visit and how many buy after revising through an email you've sent out.

Thanks

works great if your sales page is well done - people
will opt-in just on the quality of your writing - even
with a free ebook as a carrot.

People want to be led - well, if you are selling money-making
information anyway if your thinking is at a higher
level than their own they'll opt-in to follow you.

I've done this for a long time - the people are opting-in
because they read about a specific product (high dollar)
but they aren't ready to pick up the phone or move
the process forward proactively - but they are impressed
enough to say "yes, keep trying to sell me" - so there
is a mutual understanding between you.

It's a little hard to track because I don't think all
lead sources are equal - but I've observed with the $4000
package the conversion rate is a little over 1% over
time. Follow-up is all about continually saying "YES
I am still in business - this is not some flash-in-the-pan
with no support and I am here to help you" - I've been
at this for a couple of years and I expect my batting
average to improve because I'm getting better at
writing and understanding my prospects.
