I plan to start selling Google Places Top 7 listing this week. What price point do you think I should charge? The city has about 150k population. Also, would you charge a monthly fee as well?

Thanks

I would charge $500.00 first month and $250.00 per month to maintain.

I use google adwords keyword tool to get an ideal of the keyword value for a customer.
For example, the term "austin locksmith" has 2,400 searches and a CPC of $2.68.
for a value of $6,432. A conservative estimate of getting 10% of the traffic makes the value $643. That would be a starting point in discovering the monthly value for your service minus the setup fees.

Because it is a free tool I would not charge to much. We had a guy selling it in our town for a lot with monthly updates and was taken to task by a company and got in all the local news papers as a scammer.

That killed his business in one fell swoop. Business people may not know much but they arnt stupid either.

Use it as a lead in to get other work or add it as a module.

To say that Google Places is free is just plain ignorant.

Every service is free. Painting a house is free, baking pizza is free, writing a book is free.

People like to pay for services when those who perform them have specialized in perfecting that particular service.

Since a person will develop experience building Google Places and grow good rankings from them, it is worth money for the business owner.

There are not many business owners who has developed 100 google places top 3 rankings and buys every book and course that is available concerning the subject.

There are not many business owners who will spend hours building incoming maps and sitations to get the Places listing to hit the no 1 spot.

There are not many business owners who will stay up late at night testing new methods for improvement when the listing does not seem to reach the top.

  • We charge a minimum 12 month retainer, and price our services between $200-400 per month depending on the competition and search volume. When you consider the cost of similar exposure in the yellowpages companies would have to pay $1200-$3000 per month and no where near get the same exposure.

Ultimately its up to you to gauge your clients interest and indentify if they really want your services. When your first starting out you may want to price your services slighly lower or charge a single fee, to build up your client base and start asking for referrals to other businesses.
