do any of you know much about gaining the use of other people's or services' email lists to promote products or services?

I myself do not own a list, yet, but I always hear how important a list is.

Do you have recommendations or maybe some wisdom regarding this kind of thing?

Buying lists is a waste of time and money. The leads that you buy are not very targeted and do not have very good conversion rates.

What you need to do is build your own lists. This sounds complicated but it is really not that hard to do. Have you ever gone to someone's page and there was a spot for you to put your name and email? That is it! That is how they are building their own targeted list and that is how you need to do so also.

Be careful too, I've seen people use lists from dubious sources and been blacklisted for spamming.

One such list had a bad email address and as they'd sent their mailshot directly (using Outlook Express of all things with every recipient on the TO line!) it bounced back but it bounced back to the whole list which of course included the bad email address.

Then mailboxes of people with small mailboxes began to fill up and they then started bouncing the message too.

Hence a loop starts that takes a few days to die down but there was nothing they could do to stop it and they just kept their heads down whilst threats of legal action came in for overloading people's mailboxes and servers.

Services like Aweber is a different matter obviously as they can handle bounces but buying a list is still a risky business.

Buying or renting someone else list is not a waste of time at all!

But if you do it you need to make sure that the source of the list is actually a legitimate one. You do not want to spend money on a list to then find that non of your Emails ever convert into sales.

In the long term owning your own list and building a positive relationship will help guarantee sales and a actual solid business that does not rely on taking chances with other people Lists.

You should avoid purchasing second-hand mailing list information. Without the necessary permission from the user, this information is as good as useless. You don't know the source, age, or quality of these lists – or who else has purchased the records. If you do mail to them, you risk high complaints which will quickly destroy your sender reputation and get all your messages blocked to all subscribers.

Build your list for Free is the best way! It is not a fast process but it is a strong way!

You can buy a list, but relationships can never be bought.

go to the guys with lists and purchase a one time ad drop...

this is where they send your message out... and lead them to a squeeze page.

this will be cheaper and will only give you the qualified guys.

if it converts well... keep doing it... if not you know thier list is crap and you arent out much.

as a rule i don't buy lists... i like getting them via ppc... its the most qualified IMO.

I should clarify. I would rent the list. I checked their sources and they seem to be legit and only use Opt In emails.
