Heads Up - One really great phone call as the result of using PRWeb....Not!!

I'd mentioned in an earlier thread that I recently used a free promotional press release offer from PRWeb early last week.

This morning I got a call from a 'Steve' who stated he was a 'guest' editor for a morning talk show on the LifeTime Channel called 'Balancing Act'.

The early part of the conversation was an 'interview'; he was asking me a lot of questions about what I do, our product, etc. He went on to state how he thought my topic and expertise would be great for the show and would be very relevant for their audience. He wanted to schedule the show for early first quarter 2011, and that I'd need to travel to South Florida in the next 60 days for taping the segment. I honestly was pretty excited - this is cool.

Then....only slightly did the conversation change.

He started dropping small tidbits, like sending me the paperwork for review, about placing a production order, about a fee....

Say what? A fee?

Hey Stevo.....there's a big difference between a guest on a talk show, and a 'client' being conned into a misrepresented videotaped segment to which I'm graciously given all ownership rights. Yeah, right.

I'd actually just read about this exact deal here on the WF a week or two ago, In fact the price he quoted, even matched ($5900 for a 3-5 minute segment, and the national broadcast). I probably don't have an issue with the price, the 3-5 minute video, or even the national broadcast on a show on a channel that nobody's watching at that time of day.

But I do have a BIG problem with the unethical bait and switch tactic and misrepresentation of why he was REALLY contacting me.

He was going to followup with me via email. But I strongly suspect that he was very carefully monitoring my reactions to the conversation, and never bothered to followup. No emails from him yet.

So this is for those of you who do a lot of promotions, and press releases, etc.. File this one away in your memory bank, like I had, just in case Steve calls you!
