Information Overload!

Do you ever feel this way? Wow did I ever, and sometimes still do to an extent. Here I thought I was pretty computer/internet savvy until I really started doing internet marketing about six months ago.

I don't know about anyone else but I really thought that my brain was going to explode from all of the information. At first I tried to figure it out on my own BIG MISTAKE. I learned some stuff, yes but there were so many things in between that I would miss that was very important. I wanted to scream. Then I came across a certain "training company" [Not naming any names] that just inundated me with so much stuff that I couldn't keep it all straight. Besides that they would "hint" at some very important things that I needed to do but then didn't tell me how to do them! So much for good information.

But, now, things are finally starting to look better, for me at least. I found that what you REALLY need when you are first learning how to internet market is someone that can take you by the hand and show you step by step all of the things you need to do to not only be successful, but to just get started. You can't go from 0 to 60 instantly, even if you have the most powerful car in the world. You have to get there through a process, first at 0 then at 1,... Just like riding in a car, internet marketing is a process and that is how it needs to be treated.

Information overload.. definately. I get that all the time. I've been using Microsoft OneNote.. and it really has helped a ton. Whenever I come across useful information or just want to jot something down to look into later.. I just throw it on there. I don't feel as stressed out anymore.

Tell me about it. I've been online for over 11 years and I still feel the same. Internet Marketing trends always change and things that worked just yesterday do not work any more today. And you need to be always on the lookout for what's coming up ahead.

I guess that's IM alright. But that's what excites me the most. I need to constantly learn new things. I think that's what attracts me to IM...

I've been working in IM for over 9 years now and just experienced info overload yesterday.. it happens whenever you're faced with a learning curve. Mine was courtesy of OpenX.. thought I knew it in and out.. turns out I didn't.

Everyone needs a mentor. If you have someone willing to show you not just how to talk the talk, but walk the walk, then take their hand.

When I was new I was completely overwhelmed too! I remember that I spent countless late nights reading forums and trying to figure out that "secret money making" trick.

If I could go back in time and give myself any advice when I first started, I would tell myself to learn how to build a website using Wordpress and how to do keyword research. Those 2 things are critical and used just about everyday in my online business.

Oh! I would also tell myself to begin building a list immediately too.

The wonderful thing is when you really figure out the fundamentals you can block out info so quickly.

The biggest tip I could give any newbie is to "figure out whom to listen to". As an example, let's say someone is pitching me their copywriting kills. If I go to their website and don't see "xyz", I know they don't know what they're talking about....

You just need to learn what that xyz is.....

Take SEO. If someone is pitching me a linkbuilding service, all I have to do is look at their title tags and where they are ranking for certain keywords to know if they know what they are talking about or not.....

    Same thing with domains.....

    Same thing with list building....

The list goes on. The trick is to pay attention to what people DO and not so much what they say

Feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of online content? You're not alone. Keeping up to speed can be nearly impossible these days, with potentially hundreds or even thousands of daily postings competing for your attention.

A daily occurrence around here. If you are trying to keep learning, then it's an occupational hazard. One thing you can do is unsubscribe from a few dozen lists! Could save a little time!

I shared this quote on another thread, but I'll repost it here because it's one of my favorite quotes.

Mitchell Kapor, the founder of Lotus Development Corp., once said, "Getting information off the internet is like taking a drink from a fire hydrant."

Sometimes, as Dspleoiam said, it's best just to unsub from a bunch of lists and focus on one direction.

Although the fire hydrant is exhilarating, the faucet is a bit more of a practical approach. Lol

start applying techniques, instead of reading informations. Start applying that information. Start with free blogs then you can start with wordpress blogs and buy domains and hosting. APPLY, PRACTICE. Reading is good but we often say '' Theory is useless without practice ''.

I tell people who tell me they want to quite, that the learning stages of online marketing and home business is the worse part. I have been doing this for 4 years now, and it took me 2 years to really get all of the concepts of internet marketing. The Internet is changing everyday, and you never stop learning, but once you understand the concepts of online marketing, you can basically write your own paycheck.

I spent the day organizing all my IM documents, video, software etc. in the right folders etc. and I discovered that I have 47GB of "information". Funny thing is though that I still only use a few basic concepts. There is so much reworked stuff in there that I discovered.

Information overload happens when you try and stay on top of every new "secret" out there. Use what you have and start doing things with it. The difference between activity and action.

      Good luck
