A bit oversimplified and vague but there are a lot of variables that you are leaving out that could be the difference between success and failure.

I agree. There is more to it than just that. You will get traffic, but it will be very little and will boom your business to the next level.

1. Find an item on any affiliate marketplace (Clickbank is most popular..)

2. Research what keywords the chosen vendor is ranking for.

3. Create a 7-10 day follow up session

4. Set up a capture page offering a free report in that niche. (plr?)

5. Write articles and distribute to high ranking directories/blogs/forums using those keywords. Put a link to your capture page in your signature and resource box.

6. Collect the emails allowing your autoresponder follow up to kick in.

7. Continue any article building for "said niche"

Rinse and repeat.

There is a tool that I use, and it works very well. It's called SEO LINK VINE. Now what this does is you write or type an article, and you can spin it as many times as you can, so it will make several versions of your article. (This helps get your article picked u more from article directories.) You can send out that one article and if it's targeting the right keywords/s, that article will get picked up by tons of sites.

are these the general routes people go towards?

You are very much on the right track. It's simple. But on the right track.
If you're going to make it a little complicated, you need to add details such as:

- HOW to find the right CB products to promote
- HOW to find the right keywords
- HOW to write articles (keyword saturation, relevant keywords, correct placement, article titles, etc)
- HOW, WHEN, WHERE to submit articles (whether it's going to be spun articles, rewritten articles, duplicate contents, etc)

There are just so much you need to know but you're on the right track. You just need to fill all these blanks in.

This is very similar to what I had in mind. I am still in the learning stages though. I have been reading a bunch of post on here and it seems that majority of these post seem to focus on the "squeeze page capture email use aweber" approach to marketing ?

Is building a list the only viable way to make money online ?

Just wondering because I do not have the slightest idea when it comes to building a list, yet even know what to do with it once its built. I have heard of it before but never really paid any attention to it.

There are a ton of different ways to make money online, but I guarantee that if you begin building a list now, you'll be very happy that you did in the future. Even if you don't know what to do with your list right now, building a list is a solid plan of action.

I have a few Ebooks catered towards building a list that has been collecting dust on my hard drive for a while now.

I am very focused and determined to have success with Internet/Affiliate marketing. All these threads about building a list can't be telling me to do something wrong.

So I guess if I am really serious its time to take the plunge and start learning about building a list.

Do you know of any threads or any place that I can learn about building a list ?

Like I said, I have a couple of ebooks on my hard drive but maybe you know of a better place to get some education and training so that I can take proper action on building a list ?

Look around in WF and you'll find tons of posts about building lists. Start out by getting an Aweber account and set up a simple squeeze page to get people to sign up. Give away something good to your list. In other words, if someone signs up for your list they'll get this free ebook. As for an ebook, you can either come up with something yourself or buy some PLR material.

What is PLR? This stands for Public Label Rights. In other words you use these specific ebooks as giveaways. Also create various emails to be sent to them automatically that gives them tips or some other useful content.

After you have your squeeze page and content ready you can start doing some keyword research. Find keywords that have at least 1,000 searches a month with less than 1 million results on Google. Use that keyword and begin writing articles. Work on getting in the top 10 of Google for your targeted keyword. This may take a couple articles or 100 articles. Do this for various keywords. You can also drive traffic from online forums for your specific niche. Contribute to the forums.

Once you begin getting an email list together start looking into stuff you'd like to promote to your list from places like Clickbank and Commission Junction. When someone on your list buys something from your affiliate link, you get a commission!

Can you imagine if you had a list of 10,000 people for a specific niche? Now just imagine that your commission was $40 for each sale and 150 people on your email list of 10,000 decided to buy from you. That's an easy $6,000 for just sending out an email.

It takes a lot of work and dedication. Just know that in the long run it will pay off.

I definitely agree to building a squeeze page that captures emails onto an email list hosted by Aweber would be the best way to begin.

Just as others have said above, build it in a niche where you can offer a free eBook/report/video (which could be PLR content) and start sending them emails with real value.

Once you have sent them enough cool stuff that they would really want to see, sprinkle in some promotions to products that are relevant... but don't go overboard.

Just remember that once you get people on your list, you want to constantly be giving them real value. If you fail to do that and just promote products to them everyday, your people are going to run for the hills.

This is a good plan of action to begin with. While you do this, work on figuring out other ways to promote. The key is to take action no matter how you do it.

There is no "perfect" way to promote. Just take action and learn as you go...

This is awesome advice and if I had waited around until my first site was "perfect" or that first article was "just right" I never would have gotten my first site up or my first article published. You can only learn so much from books and forums before you have to actually get out there, make some mistakes and "learn my doing".

The only thing that I would add would be to try to hone your skills in one aspect of marketing, whether that be article marketing, twitter, facebook, listbuilding etc, until you have it down pretty pat and then expand into other forms of marketing. 5 things done half-arsed aren't going to be as effective as one or two methods of marketing that you're really good at.
