Banking and Personal Finance

Hello Warriors,

I love personal finance related content and am thinking of creating a site in this niche. The only concern I have is the lack of products to sell except for some books on amazon.

If any of you are in this niche currently or tried it in the past, will appreciate if you can share your thoughts and.or experience.

Thanks

Sam

I'm not in the niche but this seems like the right place to begin such a venture. Best of luck Sam :-)

Why not go ahead and build the site and start building traffic to it. Since you love the niche, creating good quality posts and articles should be a breeze and you can always initially monetize it with adsense or Amazon (don't worry about the low comission, nobody buys only 1 thing at a time from amazon).

Also, start building a list with a free report or video and a web form on your site.

Once you have that going you can sit back and look at how to maximize your earnings from the site.

The obvious answer is to create your own products to sell to your subscribers or visitors or hire someone to create the product for you.

Once you've developed a decent sized list you can also survey them to see what they want and then find or develop products around their responses.

Additionally once you have a list you could contact experts in the personal finance world and set up a joint venture to do a paid webinar or teleclass to your list.

Those are just a few of the possibilities, but don't let a lack of products prevent you from entering a niche...don't always think like an affiliate.

I am on the finance market, more into the debt one, what
I would suggest you is to start creating your list, once you
have a list, you can offer them not just amazon books, but
create your own info products, templates, reports, etc.. and
sell them or give then as a freebie, or you can sell them services
      and sell then as leads.

      Hope it helps

    Hi Sam,

There are quite a few products you can promote in this niche. Don't have time right now for a long list but just a few things that come to mind from memory are:

QVC or Home Shopping Network - I believe one or the other has Suze Orman products.

ING Direct - online banking. I think they're with Commission Junction.

I'm pretty sure Quicken/TurboTax/Quicken loans has an affiliate program.

There's a few to get you started.

For content, or a training section on your site, there's some great free CD's from the FDIC you can get called Money Smart. They're financial education training programs for Young Adults and Adults. There's also downloadable audio versions, instructor versions with the tests and answers. Look under the Consumer Protection link for the Financial education link on the FDIC site.

Hope that gives you some ideas and places to start.

      Hi Sam,

It depends on how big you want to go with your site.

You can include home finance, forecloures, car loans, insurance, credit reports, how to budget tools/sofware, real estate investing etc, trading/forex/investing etc.

Commission Junction has several Categories with services and products that you can promote on your personal finance website.

Click bank and Share a Sale also has products.

You can check out my site for ideas.

I was an Investment Banker at UBS for 2 years. If I can be of any use or give free advice on finance I would be happy to help. Don't know much about the business from a marketing perspective but can of course help in a general capacity.

i would suggest you look outside of the normal "mindset" of financial thought - it seems to have landed us in alot of trouble (current financial situation)

I would explore educating people on the power of debt and credit and how much it really costs and best practice to avoid it

Good luck - I wish you all the best

to be fair many have tried for a long time and sadly, it makes no difference. Fact is adults should have the basic financial education and take responsibility.

Great useful replies guys. When I started this thread, I was unsure if this is a good niche to puruse, not just for the lacking of products (I was wrong), as some of you mentioned this can be monetized. The other concern I had was the widely available and popular personal finance magazines like Kiplinger's, Smart Money etc.

I am now convinced that this is a good niche that is evergreen and one can derive an immense satisfaction on educating people on how to budget, use credit card wisely (thanks Dave) etc

Thanks a lot to all of you

I would personally view the lack of products in the niche as an oppurtunity to become an authority in said niche. Create your own products and rake in the profits (assuming there is enough interest etc etc etc)!
