Long-story-short...

What do you use for a domain name for a Google News site?

A regular, keyword related name, or a "news" related name?

Or, does it matter?

It depends on the topic you wish to news release. Normally use your important keywords in your link text because when a press release is picked up by multiple publishers or media outlets, remember that it is news. Again your goal with media releases is not JUST link reputation though. You also need to write a newsworthy story that will be picked up by major publications. If you don't get your story picked up, you will missing on some huge natural traffic spikes.

The domain name really doesn't matter that much with a Google News site because a news site is never focused on just one keyword.

I tell all of my students that I would prefer to have a generic sounding domain name, like zibzab.com, rather than a cheesy contrived sounding name like worldnewsjustforyou.com.

Also, with a generic name, you have the freedom to shift towards a particular niche at anytime, without the restraint of a specific niche sounding name, like HealthNewsNow.com.

Of course, the final decision is up to you.
